Jenna's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
January 31, 2001
Hello one and all. We have had another less than spectacular week. I hate weeks like this because although there is absolutely nothing to write about, I feel pressure to write something and for that something to be fabulous. At least I have admitted it now. I can move onto my less than spectacular diary entry.
As I had mentioned on many a less that spectacular week, Aaron and Anne had an appointment for their annual checkup last Thursday. Anne has gained about half a pound in the last month putting her at 19lbs. 4ozs. Aaron is at 27 1/2 lbs. Apparently the nurse who did the work up was new because according to her measurements, Anne had not grown but was an inch or two shorter and Aaron's head had lost a few centimeters. She didn't take Aaron's height, either. Aaron got 4 shots and Anne got three. ^ouch^
After that we had to run to the Red Cross. I had decided to donate platelets and get on the bone marrow registry. To make a very long story short, they blew out a vein, I nearly passed out and three cups of bad orange punch later I was headed home. I did manage to get the bone marrow test done, though. A week later I still have a LARGE bruise on my arm. I'll try again in a month or two.
Do you remember me worrying about Anne's inability to walk? That battle is over. She is officially a toddler. She has the funniest walk. She walks in nearly a split. Her daddy will begin worrying if she doesn't learn to keep her legs a little closer together. Her new word is Banana. I guess that is a pretty easy one for a tot. She says "nana." How many kids say it any other way?
I had an epiphany. I can give Anne time-outs. I nearly hit the floor when the doctor told me. I didn't think I could do that with Aaron, much less Anne. Time-outs for a one year old? I had no idea. Well, I did it the other day. Dr. Ahn told me that I may have to hold her in the chair and that I can't talk to her or look at her durring the time out, and that after the minute is up, I cannot pet her. I did it. Would you believe it worked? When Anne has gotten into things over and over and over again, I would spank her hand. Anne would continue to get into the same thing over and over and over again. All spanking her hand did was make her cry while she did it. I have got to say that after the time out, she found something else to do. That is soooo cool. It will be difficult to get into the practice of doing timeouts. I have been spanking hands for 5 or 6 years. I already have a time out chair. I just need to remember to use it.
I have not said anything about Aaron. He is cute and sweet and smart. I do love Aaron. He got a timeout, too. There are weeks I only write about Aaron, aren't there? I hope so.
Have a spectacular week,
Jenna
