Collin is 13 months old

***Thirty Years Old Already?!***

Yes, indeed, already! On Sunday, August 25th at 9:32am I will *officially* be 30 years old! It’s funny how many people ask me such questions as: “Are you scared?”, “Are you freaking out?”, “Are you sad?”, “Can you believe you’re going to be 30 years old…Thirty…30…the big THREE O!?”, “Do you feel old?”, “Has it hit you yet?” Sheesh! I swear people act like 30 is some magical number that when the clock strikes your birth hour you will be magically be transformed into a warty ugly old troll or something. I wasn’t the least bit concerned about hitting 30 until everyone started asking me about it so now I’m left questioning myself about certain things in life. For the most part I am totally fine with not being in my 20’s anymore. I’m looking forward to what the 30’s have to offer. A career I really want…more children…a bigger home…vacations…more anniversaries with my husband, etc. What’s not to love about all that?! I still have lots of learning, growing, sharing and lessons to learn about life and its years of experience that gets us there! I’m looking forward to “out with the old, in with the new!” Come on 30…bring it on. I’m ready for ya!

***All About Collin***

Collin’s last swim class is Saturday already and the last class is just a play class where the YMCA will turn on the fountains and let the children splash and play. Seems like we just started the summer session, now we’re already done with it! Since I’m going back to school in September we probably won’t head back to swim class until November or December. By then it will be nice to sink into the nice warm water while it snows and blows outside.

Last Thursday Collin and I were out in the grass just playing and hanging out on a blanket. Collin likes to lean over the blanket and pick blades of grass and give them to me. As he was doing this, I noticed he stopped picking the blades of grass and started pretending to pick them and give them to me. I was pretending to take them and said “thank you” each and every time he would hand me a pretend blade. This went on for several minutes. You could tell that he was so proud of himself and happy that I knew what he was doing. The next day we were reading a book and one of the pages had an apple tree on it. He pretended to pick apples and hand them to me. It’s so cute that he has learned how to pretend. He even acts like he’s answering the phone and will put his hand up to his ear like he’s talking. Sometime he’ll just grab anything – a shoe, a book, a piece of his sandwich, and put it up to his ear. It’s really cute to watch.

Collin has gotten a few more teeth. It’s so hard to get a good look into his mouth now that he can push my hands away or takes H pieces anymore, but I’m still very careful about how large the pieces are. He’s starting to use utensils – the smaller plastic kind made for toddlers. We usually have to put the food on the spoon or fork, but he loves to grab it and put it in his mouth. He’s getting pretty good!

Collin is now signing like crazy and will use signs to let us know what he wants. He’s regularly using eat, drink, sleepy, book, more, all done, bottle (he made this one up), milk, and is starting to use the sign for diaper. I’m so glad that we taught Collin how to sigh; it’s made things so much easier for him and for us.

He’s also saying more words now. He says daddy, kitty, doggie, ball, uh-oh!, banana, Mmmm!, tomato (mato, mato!), cucumber (his rendition), balloon (again, his rendition which pretty much sounds like ball), thank you, pencil, sticker (he’s starting to LOVE stickers of any kind!), and he sometime will say something that sounds like mom-mom. I’m just waiting for the day he says MOMMY! (smile)

Collin isn’t quite walking on his own yet, but he’ll stand by himself for many minutes at a time and will walk if you hold his hand. I’m almost certain he’ll be taking those first steps sometime soon!

Collin is pretty much a typical boy. He loves banging, tossing, and throwing things around, loves chasing the cats around the living room and loves for daddy to case him around the living room in a game we call Turkey Leg. We’ll chase him around on our hands and knees saying, “were coming to get your turkey leg”, then when we “catch” him we tickle the inside of his thigh. He loves it and giggles like mad! We try to play this game shortly before bedtime to tire him out. He also loves balls of any kind – baseballs, footballs, basketballs, toy balls, soccer balls, foam balls, balls, balls, balls! If I might say so myself, this kid has a pretty good arm and can already throw a ball right to whatever target he’s aiming for! We’ll see if the minor leagues are in our near future! He also loves to sit and play alone, stacking cups, lids, or toys on top of each other or inside each other. He’ll sit and get out his books and open them up, looking at all the pictures and keeping himself occupied for as long as 15-20 minutes at a time. The little sneak has also figured out how to stack toys on top of each other to get to higher ground. I caught him stacking his See ‘n’ Say under the window so he could get up on his tippy toes to catch a peak at what was going on outside.

Okay, that’s all for this installment. More soon but right now I have a toddler trying his hardest to pound away on the keyboard!

Congratulation goes out to my dear friend, and fellow precon writer, Jenni who just learned she is PREGNANT! She just started her diary so I’m hoping that she’ll keep one on PG today!!!

More later, but until then-
Hugs, Jennifer & Collin
