Collin is 23 months old
I’m 11 weeks pg

I don’t want to jinx myself, but I **think** my all day long and into the night I want to die nausea has pretty much passed. It truly was awful and for weeks all I wanted to do with lay on the sofa and moan. I’ve lost track of the times I’ve actually thrown up this time around. With Collin, I only threw up once. Certain smells send me over the edge and if I have to load the dishwasher or do the garbage, I go on a gagging fit and have to will myself not to get sick. I seriously felt like garbage for weeks and having to chase and occupy a toddler hasn’t been easy but I think the worse is behind us now. It’s so true that no two pregnancies are alike, at least in my case. This pregnancy is 100% different in every way then when I was pg with Collin. Of course I was in A LOT better shape when pg with Collin but still, things are so much different this time around. This time I have no real cravings or aversions to certain foods. With Collin I craved Mexican food in my 1st trimester, veggie whoppers from BK my 2nd trimester and DQ chocolate and PB cup Blizzards my 3rd trimester. So far, I haven’t really had the craving for any particular kind of food but I have wanted slush’s a lot. I think it’s the desire of the cold ice along with all that sugar. I’ll either get a cherry one from Sonic or else a lemon-lime or grape from DQ (called a Misty). I prefer the DQ Misty because it’s those little pebbles of ice that I like. Sonic is just slush, like flavored snow. Other than that, there hasn’t been any kind of food that I’ve just had to have. In fact, most of the day most things don’t even sound appealing to me. Since I get nauseated and throw up if I don’t eat, I force myself to have a little something so my stomach isn’t empty.

Now that my nausea is pretty much under control, wouldn’t you know it – something else has popped up. I’m having excruciated pain in my back left hip (sciatica nerve) and also my front left pelvic/pubis area. So bad that I can hardly walk and when I do, it’s extremely painful. It’s almost as if I’ve pulled a muscle or bruised something in there. My next OB appointment is Monday (June 9) and I’ll talk to my OB about it then. I’m going to ask her if it’s okay to see a chiropractor to get a pregnancy adjustment. I’m sure she’ll say it’s fine. I’ve heard great things from pregnant women who have gone in for hip and pelvic adjustments so I’m hoping it alleviates some of this awful pain I’m dealing with. Our insurance doesn’t have a limit on chiropractic care and I only have to pay the $10.00 co pay each visit.

Collin is doing great and is growing up to be such a big smart beautiful boy. His second birthday is in three weeks and we’re getting him a tricycle. He’s very excited. Most of the party planning is done; I’ve been working on it here and there (when not feeling sick) for a couple weeks now so that I didn’t have a huge list of things to do all at once. The only things left to do are to purchase the food/drinks and do the setting up and decorating. We’re having it in the back yard this year so I’m hoping we don’t melt. Last year on his birthday it was 99 degree’s. Ugh.

Collin loves to play outside on nice days. He’s really into playing with his train, cars, Bob the Builder backhoe and any type of ball. His favorite is still his Hoover upright vacuum because he loves to pretend he’s helping daddy mow the lawn. Mark’s mom got him a toy lawn mower for his birthday so I know he’s going to love that. He loves helping out when we’re cleaning up the house or doing yard work. He really is a big help so I’m thankful for that (since it helps me out too). He’ll gladly pick up all his toys off the living room floor as long as he gets to help vacuum. He likes to help dust (because I put a sock on his hand as his dusting rag) and I have to ask him NOT to help me when it comes time to load the dishwasher. He really is a good boy and I couldn’t have asked for a better-behaved or sweeter toddler.

He now will count to 10 on his own (the other day he threw in 11 and 12!) and will start the alphabet, making it to D. He hates to wear a diaper and loves to run around the house nude (outside too!) but he hasn’t fully picked up the concept of using the potty if you don’t have a diaper on. He’s known all his colors and shapes for months now and loves to point out colors on anything he sees. He’s a very sensitive and compassionate boy, I can tell. When I’m not feeling well he’ll ask if mommy or the baby is okay or sick and he gets very upset if he hears me throwing up.

He’s still sleeping about 11 hours at night. Usually from about 8:30pm to about 7:30am, give or take a bit. He takes one 1.5-2 hour nap either late morning or early afternoon and that will get him through the rest of the day. He’s not a very good eater when it comes to quantity but as for quality he’s great. He loves all fruits and would probably try to eat his way through a watermelon if we let him. He loves veggies and still likes breads. He loves pasta and cheese ravioli and he also likes Taco Bell’s 7-layer burritos. When he sees a Taco Bell commercial he’ll say, “Burrito Baby!” He doesn’t have a big sweet tooth and would rather have cantaloupe then a cookie. I’m sure not complaining about that. He does however, love root beer and we’ll let him have a small glass once in awhile for a treat. He still loves milk and would gladly drink an entire gallon if we let him. We’ve been giving him a ½ of a Flintstone chewable once a day to insure that he gets all his vitamins.

Mark and I had a date night the other evening. Mark’s mom came over and watched Collin and I met Mark at one of our favorite restaurants for dinner – just the two of us. We met at Spaghetti Works and both had the hot naked sauce over pasta. It’s an olive oil and garlic sauce with button mushrooms. I had regular spaghetti and Mark had fettuccini noodles with his. I had the salad bar and we both had garlic bread. Then for dessert we shared a hot fudge brownie sundae. It was our very first dinner without Collin and it sure was nice to be able to eat at my own pace. I didn’t have to worry about a mess on the floor or cutting up food or keeping a toddler occupied. It was so relaxing. A couple nights later we had another date night and where we went to the movies. Once again, Mark’s mom came over to sit with Collin but we waited until he was tucked into bed so she was able to sit on the couch and read her book and doze off. We saw Finding Nemo and found it to be a cute light hearted fun movie.

Today we are taking Collin to the children’s museum. I’m sure he will just love it. We’re planning several things here and there throughout the summer and fall for the three of us to spend more quality family time together before the new baby comes. We are getting very excited and I’m already so anxious to find out the gender of this little angel. We have names picked out but since we are finding out the gender, we’ve decided to keep the names a secret. Mark’s thinks we’re having another boy while I have no idea. I would say I’m feeling girl vibes but I also thought I was having a girl with Collin too. (grin) I have had a ton of girl dreams though and lots and lots of dreams about my mother too. We should be able to have our ultrasound at the very end of July or the very beginning of August.

I’ve finally updated Collin’s web page for anyone who’s interested. I’ll post the link on my TTM board.

Take care,

Jennifer, Collin, & baby #2 (edd: 12/26)

PS. I've emailed iParenting at least TEN times over the past couple months and have requested to be moved to Mom's Today, but it looks like hell might freeze over first!
