Collin is 20 months old.
The weather can't seem to make up it's mind and decide if it wants to go with spring (70+ temps) or stay with winter (35-45 degree temps). On the nice days, Collin and I spend the afternoon's out in the back or side yard and place ball or rake leaves. Last night I found him a child's sized 3 piece yard set (rake, shovel, hoe) and a watering can. I set them out on the coffee table this morning and he was oh so happy when he eyed it after he woke up. He grabbed the rake and acted like he was raking the living room carpet. Then he took the watering can and pretended to water the plants around the living room. This afternoon it's supposed to be nice and sunny so after he wakes from his nap and we eat lunch, I'll take us out and let him play while I rake, clean out the flower beds and pick up sticks, branches, and twigs. How I only wished that I had to pretend instead of doing the real deal!
Library story time has been going good, but last weekend Collin decided there were more interesting things to do in a library besides sitting and being quiet. As soon as the librarian began to read the story, he jolted up and ran for the door. Another little boy, around Collin's age, noticed Collin getting up so he got up too. Both boys were running towards the children's section while quickly taking a sneak peak behind their shoulders to see how far behind Mom was. I quickly caught up with Collin and asked him where he was going. He took off again. He just wanted to run and play. I got him interested in the board puzzles for a few minutes and kept asking him if he wanted to go back in for story time. He kept shaking his head no. All the local elementary schools must have had an art show because all kinds of neat and fun pieces of children's artwork work hung from the ceiling and were taped to the wall. It felt like a cozy little colorful cave. I think that's why Collin liked being there so much. It was so much more interesting to run around the shelves, while knocking books and video's down (and laughing about it while I chased him) then it was to sit in a boring plain room listening to a story. I guess I can't blame him. We made it back in time to hear the last two sentences of the book, sing the last song and say good-bye to the pet turtle and monkey (I always forget their names)! This week is the last toddler story time until later on this summer. The child's librarian said it was because they have to spend a lot of time getting ready for summer reading camp.
I went to my first MOMS club event. They had a new members tea last week. It was smack dab right in the middle of Collin's nap (10am) but I wanted to go and take him with so we could meet everyone. It was a cold, dark and rainy day so the turn out wasn't that great but we still had a good time. We took Mark to work that day and ended up being 30 minutes early to the meeting place (a church) so I tried to occupy Collin by walking us around the building while I pointed out different shapes and colors. Finally the president of the club arrived and showed us where the play room was. Collin was much happier having toys to play with. There were over 20+ members invited to the tea but only about 6 of us showed up. They had loads of food and drinks and crafts for both the children and the moms. Collin was tired but he was such a good boy. He ate some strawberries and broccoli and had an Arthur apple juice box. We worked on the children's craft, which is now proudly displayed on our refrigerator. I didn't get the chance to work on the mom's craft because Collin had a very small attention span due to a much needed nap. Around 11:30 they were starting to make pizza for lunch but I elected to pass so we could get home. I told everyone it was nice to meet them and that I looked forward to more events and meetings. We made our way out with a fishbowl full of confetti and Hershey miniatures, kinda of like a "welcome to the club" gift. Collin and I ate most of the candy on the ride home. We stopped for Taco Bell, came home, ate lunch, and Collin crashed out for a two hour nap. I look forward to attending some of the mom's night out events and possibly joining up in the book club and scrap booking club. I also plan on signing us up for play group too.
Collin is really getting great at his shapes. He knows circle, oval and crescent moon and says them all very clearly. He'll sit and play with his shape sorter and yell out "oval" as he smashes the piece into the correct spot. Also, now when you ask him, "How old is Collin going to be?" He'll give you the CUTEST look and yell, "TWoooooooooooo." He's growing up so fast and learning so much everyday that it's hard to document it all. I'll just say he's growing into quite the cute and smart little boy.
We went to a birthday party this last weekend for my goddaughter. Her Mom just had a baby a few weeks ago and I was holding him for a good part of the time. Collin didn't get jealous and seemed to really love the baby. He would peer into my arms while I held the sleeping angel and he'd say, "night-night baby." One time Collin studied the baby very closely as to try to figure him out and then he looked at his hand and cheerfully said, "Hand!" It was very touching that Collin was figuring out that this baby was just a little miniature version of himself. Collin patted the baby and tilted his head as he stared at him. He seemed to really enjoy the baby. Mark looked at me and said, "I bet he would love a little brother or sister." I said, "You're right, I bet he would." Along those lines...(do I have your attention now?) We ACTIVELY TTC (counting days, etc.) during the month of February but AF showed so it was obviously a no go. We're not planning on trying (seriously) until later on this summer but we aren't taking any precautions either. As much as I love spending ALL my time with my sweet little rascal, I do agree that he needs a brother or sister. I think if it happened anytime now, Collin would be old enough to really enjoy a baby and be self sufficient enough to not need 100% of my attention. We'll see. It took us a good 8+ months to conceive Collin.
I'm doing good about going to the gym. I've been going at least 3X per week and I'm really getting into it. I'm starting to really enjoy it and think of it as my "me" time. I didn't want to, but I went ahead and weighed myself already and although I haven't lost one single pound yet, I know I will. Usually I'm slow to lose weight at first and then all of a sudden, wham, I start losing it. I hope that's the case this time around. I'd like to be down 17 pds by Memorial Day. Of course Collin and I had ice cream today too, so I'm thinking that's not going to help me any! (grin).
Collin has been going crazy for the sky lately. He loves airplanes and loves the moon. He goes absolutely nuts when he hears a plane and can't get to the window in time to see it. Since I started this entry, Collin woke from his nap, we ate lunch and we played outside for two hours. We saw at least 5 or 6 planes. They fly so low and so close you can almost see the pilots. Their mammoth size takes up almost the entire sky and Collin giggles in delight with each one. Today we saw Airforce One three times. Very neat.
Well, that outta do it for now!
Until next time...
Hugs, Jennifer & Collin
Blessings to our military and their families
