Collin is 19 months old.
***My First Call to the Poison Control Center***
This afternoon I had just gotten done loading up the dishwasher. Collin was contently playing in the living room with his new miniature broom and kid sized Hoover vacuum. I had just called my MIL to ask her to come over and watch Collin so I could go to the gym. I'm in the bathroom getting ready and I realize that Collin is VERY quiet! I didn't think much of it because many times he plays quietly. Second later, he comes in and starts sticking his tongue out saying, "Gross! Gross?” Mama Gross!” while making an “ick” face. I ask him what's the matter and he points to his shirt where he has spit something out onto it. I look closely and can't figure out what it was so I go tearing into the kitchen. OMG! I had forgot to put the childproof lock back on the kitchen cabinet and Collin got into it and decided he was going to "clean." He had his little broom in there but he must have gotten side tracked because he decided to taste an Elecrosol fast dissolving orange blossom liquid dishwashing tab. I freaked (inside) and quickly and calmly asked Collin if he ate one of these while pointing to the two open messy liquid packets on the floor. He just kept saying, "Gross" and spitting. I quickly grabbed the box and read the side. It said to wash any effected areas immediately and if ingested to drink water and call Poison Control. I took Collin and got him into the bath immediately and started washing him up. Then I brushed his teeth, mouth, and tongue and had him drink water. He was acting just fine, splashing about while happily shouting, "bubble bath!, bubble bath!" over and over again. He was so excited to be taking a bubble bath in the middle of the afternoon (we have bath time after dinner and before bed). I got him out and wrapped him up and then called Poison Control. Long story short, the operator said I did a wonderful job and that I acted fast. She checked the ingredients and said that surprisingly, this stuff has a low PH and since he didn't seem to ingest too much (just enough to taste and know it was gross) he was probably fine. She had me check his mouth for any signs of irritation or burns. His mouth looked fine. She told me just to watch him over the next several hours and have him drink more liquids and that if he showed any signs of drooling or a hard time breathing to get him to a doctor. That was two hours ago and he's just fine. Phewww! I swear that I would NEVER leave cabinets or cupboards open but it just happened. Collin has always been good about not putting things into his mouth but I guess those see through little packets were just too tempting for him. I am so thankful that he didn't get too much into his mouth and that I had enough sense to act fast. It really is true that it only takes a second. To anyone who has toddlers - GET THOSE BABY SAFE LOCKS ON!!!!!
***And Baby Makes Four***
Aside from that heart attack, I got some greatly anticipated and wonderful news. My best girlfriend had her baby today! Khristina and I have been friends for over 20 years and we've been through so much together. We've gone through periods in our lives when we were joined at the hip and other times where we couldn't stand the sight of each other, but the one thing that has remained true is the special bond that has grown between us. We've been there for each other during the worst and best that life has had for us. We're more like sisters than friends I'd say.
Khristina has a 6-year-old daughter, Cheyanne, but recently remarried and was expecting their second baby on Feb. 13th. Her husband and her wanted the gender (and the baby’s name) to be a surprise. She was induced and had their baby BOY today (on his due date) at 11:00am. His name is Cade Quinn and he weighed 8pds, 4oz and was 20 3/4" long. Just so happens that Khristina's 30th birthday is tomorrow, Valentine's Day. Although she will be in the hospital on her birthday, I can't think of a better gift than her healthy beautiful baby! Khristina and Cade get released on Saturday so Mark and I have made plans to go down to visit on Sunday. They live in Lincoln, which is just about an hour southwest of us. I can't wait to see them!!!
I think that's about enough excited for today! It's been gorgeous out the last two days - mid to upper 40's. Heat wave!!! :)
Survivor Amazon starts tonight! Yippy!
Until next time...
Hugs, Jennifer & Collin
