Jenni's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

December 21, 2004

The reason I started an on line Diary ( with iParenting) was to make friends and write about my kids so that I could remember their childhoods but since leaving there and starting a blog I feel that I've been doing a whole lot of venting and not much writing about the kids. I am going to try to be better about that because I've missed writing down a lot about them the last couple of months.

Kevin- I took Kevin to the doctor last Tuesday because he has that really bad cough again and he had green snot pouring out of his face (remember this started last May). He is now on antibiotics again(he just finished a months worth right before Maxx's birthday). The doctor weighed him and he weighs 80lbs! That means he's gained 15 lbs since last Spring. He's not fat but it amazes me that he has grown so much. He weighed between 40-45lbs when I got pregnant with Maxx so he's gained 35-40lbs in 2 1/2 years!

After I took Kevin to the doctor we went out for Mexican food and Kevin was really tired and lethargic so we decided that we would keep him home on Wednesday so he could rest. On Wednesday it was hard to get him to rest but he would every once in a while. He ended up throwing up Wednesday afternoon and then ran a low grade fever all night and part of Thursday. He ended up going to school on Friday mostly because I wanted to get rid of the teacher and bus drivers gifts and also because I wanted to get my wrapping done.

I We got all of the kids gifts wrapped while Kevin was at school. Tom did help but he spent most of his time glued to the E* Tr@de screen and a stock market message board. When Kevin came home we could tell he was completely worn out but he was excited for me to open the gift he made for me at school. The kids glued their school pictures to the bottom of a clear glass bowl and then drew on the bowl with white crayon (Kevin drew snowmen) and then they painted the whole bowl blue. It's really cute and I told Kevin how much I liked it. Kevin still has his cough but seems to be doing better.

Kevin seems to really like school but getting him there gets harder and harder. He's hard to get put of bed and then he can't decided what to eat, then he plays around when he's supposed to be brushing his teeth and hair, then we make fight like crazy while trying to get him dressed, and finally we make a mad dash to the bus stop, which, thankfully is located across the street from our house.

I've volunteered at his school doing odd jobs for his teacher, most of it consists of tracing things, cutting things out, putting things together, and playing letter or number bingo with the kids. All of these things are done at a table located outside Kevin's classroom so I am able to observe him in the classroom setting. I have to say I'm impressed, the teacher has total control and has the quietest classroom in the kindergarten wing. Kevin looks funny sitting in one of those small chairs but does sit still and does his work. When we had our conference she said he was doing really well and that she had no concerns about him academically. He does tend to rush through things to get to the "fun stuff'" and he gets a little chatty sometimes but other than that he was doing great. On his report card he got all "3's" out of "4's" on everything except writing which he got a "2". They want all the children to be at "4's" by the end of the year.

I have had Kevin enrolled in T@e k0wn do since the beginning of school and he seems to like it despite that one run in with the one coach. I'd like to keep him in it, I think it's good discipline and once he gets through his first promotion and earns a belt I think he'll be much more into it. Kevin also took a sports sampler class where they played a different sport each week. He had fun but the class was run by an older guy, probably an old coach, and some teenagers and it seemed like total chaos. This past session Kevin did basketball which was much better organized and he seemed to learn a lot more so I think he will do that again also. Plus they got a basketball medal at the end also, which Kevin absolutely LOVES!

So far Kevin has lost 5 teeth; the 2 bottom front, the 2 top front, and the bottom left next the the front teeth. This is going to sound horrible but I took Kevin for his first dental appointment last month. He was scared to go, even though I explained step by step everything that was going to happen, in fact he seemed even more scared after I explained everything. I checked everything out when I went for my appointment and everybody seemed really nice. Unfortunately Kevin got a different technician when he went and this woman was not very friendly, especially with children. She looked at Kevin like he was nuts when he asked if I could be in with him and then she never offered me a chair to sit in and made me stand in the doorway and watch. Kevin did great and I'm sure now that Kevin knows what goes on when you go to the dentist he'll be able to go in on his own next time. Kevin didn't have any cavities but needs to brush a little better. He also has to go back for sealants in January. Unfortunately I have to have a crown and a filling replaced, yuck!

Kevin is still into trains, although it seems not as much. His big thing right now is Yu-gi-0h and he wants a pack of cards every time we go somewhere. At $4 a pack they are not cheap and he has no clue how to play the game! His other thing is video games, one Sunday he stayed in the child care during church because some of his friends stayed there and he got to play with a g@me boy and now he wants one. He also loves to play those Sega games that come in the McDon@alds happy mea1s.

I was really stumped on what to get him for Christmas. We ended up getting him the g@me b0y because the Terra1n tw1ster he originally wanted can't be found anywhere. I also got him a Fur Real bear, the Yu-gi-0h dual disk, a play doh dinosaur set, some books, a plush neopet, a leap fr0g bank, a leap fr0g math game, a play shave set, and some sp1derman pajama pants. I think there were a few more things but I can't remember them now. Tom thinks I totally went overboard but I got everything on sale so I didn't spend as much as it looks like, although we are still poorer than poor.

Kevin still loves to sit and look/read books. Since he was a few months old I would read three books at nap and bedtime, now I feel bad because I only get to read to him once a day and it's usually 1-2 books. We are on the last book of level 2 of H00ked on Ph0nics we don't spend nearly enough time doing it and this last book is 60 some pages long that Kevin has to read to ME.

All and all since Kevin has started full day Kindergarten he has been much easier to deal with, that and adding extra curricular activities; basketball, tae kw0n d0, and Sunday school.

Maxx- Where do I even start? I feel so bad that I didn't keep up with writing his milestones down. I took him for his one year check up at the end of October and he weighs 31lbs and he is 34 in. tall. He has 16 teeth and his top right two year molar has just broken through. The two year molar was preceded by a fever and congestion. Maxx still has blond hair and big blue eyes.

I should say Maxx still has blond hair but a lot less of it. Yep! We finally cut his hair or I should say Tom cut his hair. On December 3 I came home from the Dermatologist and Maxx was missing what was left of his beautiful blond curls and he had just above the shoulder wispy blond hair. Tom had decided to Fl0w bee Maxx. I wasn't sure I liked this new look but decided to wait until I washed it to see if I liked it or not. NOT! I made Tom do the rest of it the following Monday and now Maxx has a proper boys hair cut and while he's still a cutie pie I miss those baby curls! Now he's graduated to toddler hood.

Maxx will eat almost everything but he has a fondness for carbs and will eat them in favor of anything else. He loves potatoes, any kind, Kevin will only eat french fries and hates mashed potatoes while Maxx can't get enough of them. Right now Maxx's favorite thing is to ask for a "snack" and will lead me to the pantry and say "take you Mama" meaning to pick him up and look at all the food. He will pick something out after about ten minutes of changing his mind and then whatever his choice is has to be put into a cup for him to carry around. His favorite snacks are, cheez-its, fruit snacks, raisins, dried cereal(Cheerios's, fruit loops, and apple jacks) and dried apricots. Sometimes he will spill the cup but he will help pick up the mess, at least one of them will help me clean!

A couple of things we are surprised that he likes are salsa and that mildly spicy cheese dip for chips. He doesn't even mind spicy salsa! He seems to prefer chicken over any other kind of meat and usually won't eat any other kind unless it is cold, weird, I know.

Maxx LOVES video's and DVDs, he spends most of his day bringing them to us to put on for him and now that he's talking more he brings them and says, "movie, watchit, now". At first it was Thomas the Tank engine Tapes but he only liked certain stories so we were constantly changing the tapes just so he could see the ones he liked. Then he moved on to the Scooby Doo movies and we've watched those hundreds of times. Now when Maxx see's the Warner Bros logo he thinks Scooby do is coming on. After Scooby he moved on to Both Peter pan movies and Monsters Inc. Since getting all the Christmas tapes out we've watched both the animated and the film version of the Grinch about a hundred times. I have actually taken those away a few times because I am so sick of it. Now we are in a Harry Potter phase and I can't wait until after Christmas when we have the third one to watch!

Since Maxx likes all those movies he loves all the Happy mea1 figures of the characters and will carry them around with him all them time and hope we don't loose any of them. The one he's liked the most so far is the Velma figure from Scooby Doo, he absolutely loves her! I've had to back track at stores just to find these figures because he won't go to be without the ones he's currently into. He's also had a fascination with Cranky the Crane and the Boulder from Thomas the Tank Engine, imagine how soft and cuddly those are to sleep with.

Maxx still loves to read books, I read at least 3 at nap time and three at bedtime. Kevin loves books to but I think Maxx may love them more or maybe I've just had to read the same ones over and over more. He loves all the Peggy Rathman books and now he's into the Katie books by James Mayhew and we can't forget The Grinch ( that one has been retired for the season, Maxx is still looking for it!).

He's still a good sleeper at night but at around eighteen months the afternoon naps have been few and far between. I still put him down everyday but he spends most of his time either playing or removing his clothing. I've tried duck taping around the diaper and that helped for a while, then I tried taping around the diaper and then around the outside of the pants he's wearing but he has managed to wiggle out of that so I spend most of my time changing his sheets and doing more laundry.

Maxx has finally started taking more. After his second birthday he started completing the ends of words and now he says just about anything but will only put a few words together but he's improving more everyday. He calls Kevin "Cha Chi" and my Mom "Dre Dre" (for Grammy) and "Dru" (Grumps) although just the other day he started calling my Dad "Drumps". He calls Tom's parents 'Ma (Grandma) and "papa" ( Grandpa). He calls Tom's niece "Sasa" (Melissa).

I can't believe how much I love these two, my favorite part of the day is when they are both in bed sleeping and I go in and check on them. I love to watch them sleep, they are so peaceful.

I should mention that I wrote the above two days ago and now Kevin has been home for two days straight on winter break and I am already going crazy! Maxx had another molar break through; the top left, and has been running a fever and is crabby. I feel like I am having a breakdown, actually I am having severe PMS, or at least I hope I am. There is no way I can be pregnant I think it's been over a month since we've had sex. Tom had to make it know the other night that I've turned him down three times in a row. Well sorry, right now I have a cold and feel pretty run down plus I have a cough that won't stop.

I'm going to the doctor tomorrow to discuss my migraines again, sometimes the medication works sometimes it doesn't. I'm still on the antidepressants but they don't seem to be working like they did at first. I wonder if he'll send me for an MRI? I've also had headaches for the past three days, that's another reason to think my periods coming. Merry Christmas to me!

The kids should have a great Christmas, Tom and I have decided to wait and get each other gifts when we get our tax return since it always seems like we're completely broke this time of year.

Kevin will be getting his Terra1n tw1ster. I almost got one from one of the mom's of a kid that Kevin went to preschool with. Her in-laws had ordered one on line and it was supposed to ship a week ago, however this woman found one at store and said she would sell it to me if the one her in-laws ordered arrived in time. Of course it didn't so luckily she had a back-up for her son. The same day she called me to let me know, my mom and I went to Wal-m@rt because she wanted me to show her some alternative things to get Kevin (we told him we were picking out thinks for my mom's great nephews). I asked Kevin to show us were the tr@nsformers were and he went down the isle with the r/c toys. Just for kicks I decided to look to see if they had any terrain tw1sters and can you believe they had 1, a red one, the one Kevin wanted? They also had 1 battery that was hidden off to one side. My mom bought both for him so he should be thrilled! I am still in shock that we found it.

I think that brings us up to date, Have a GREAT Holiday everyone!
