Kevin-5years old
Maxx- Almost 1!!!

Books we are enjoying:
Kevin-Goldilocks Returns by Lisa Campbell Ernst and New Dino’s by Shelley Tanaka

Maxx-Zoo Crew and Animal Time both by Tom Arma

Jenni- I just finished Shopaholic Takes Manhattan and Shopaholic ties the Knot both by Sophie Kinsella

It’s official!!! I have a toddler. Maxx has started walking; he can sometimes walk up to 7ft. by himself. It’s so funny to watch, he holds his arms out in front of him to keep his balance. Maxx has also started climbing up on things, so we have to be careful what we leave on the floor because he will use anything as a stepping stool to get himself up higher. I don’t know what I’m going to do when he learns to climb on things without a boost. I normally “trap” him in the family room by putting the pack and play between the sofa and the Lego table but once he learns to get on the Lego table by himself then I’m in trouble! He is still pretty much our “angel”, although he’s starting to become a little more stubborn with me. He’ll lay pretty good for to get changed or dressed but for me I practically have to lay on top of him to keep him still and if I tell him “no” he laughs at me. If Tom or Kevin tell him “no” his little bottom lip comes out and he starts to cry. Maxx also gets mad if we block him in the family room or try to put him in the high chair. He arches his back and flails himself backward and screams. I hope this is only a stage; I can’t deal with having two Kevin’s. I’m still nursing Maxx, about 4-5 times a day. I have given him whole milk on occasion and he loves it, which I’m glad about so I’m hoping that when it comes time to wean him things will go smoothly. I did start taking fenugreek because I felt my milk supply was becoming less. I couldn’t believe how quickly it worked. The down side to it is that the capsules taste and smell AWFUL, but I read somewhere that you can get odorless ones. Maxx is babbling up a storm and has added Yah to his vocabulary. So now he says Dah, hedo, Mmmm (moo), and Yah. Sometimes we get a Mama but I’m not sure if he actually means anything by it. He has also picked up the horrible habit of poking himself in the eye with his thumb which is completely gross. I hope that habit goes away quickly!

We had another rough week with Kevin. School seemed to go fine but he was an absolute terror at home. He talked back the whole time and would not listen at all. I kept sending him to his room or to the stairs for time outs but it didn’t help; he had complete meltdowns each time. I felt like I spent the whole week yelling at him so the allowance list went completely out the window, I couldn’t standing nagging at him to do the list anymore. I’ve started using Santa as a threat now so we’ll see how that goes. All the Christmas toy catalogs have been arriving and Kevin just loves to sit and look at them. We got an F.A.O Schwartz catalog and he keeps telling me Santa is going to bring him all the insanely expensive things. Lots of Luck, Kevin!!!

Actually we have 99% of all our Christmas done. Every night we put all our spare change into a huge antique pickle jar I have on the top of my fridge and when we were ready to do our Christmas shopping we took it to the bank. This year we had $190. Then we took the kids to Farm and Fleet (what? It’s a Midwest store and they used to only carry farm things but now they pretty much carry a little bit of everything. Every year at the end of October they put tons of toys out and after Christmas they get rid of them) and go up and down each isle of toys. We let them (Kevin) show us what they really liked and then Tom took them to another part of the store and I did the shopping. Last year Kevin was really into tractors so it worked out really well because being a farm store they carry all the John Deere and Case Tractor toys. This year Kevin isn’t so much into Tractors but he still had fun looking at everything. I bought Kevin a telescope, and Ice maker, a G.I Joe, and two G.I Joe vehicles, a John Deere Combine Lego set, and a G.I Joe Lego set. I got Maxx a Little People Farm Accessory set, some kind of hammer that makes noise when you pound it, and a John Deere Tractor Book that can also be used as a Tractor Toy. I also Ordered Kevin a Pac-Man game from Qvc (yes, I’ll admit it, I’m a Qvc addict) Of course we couldn’t leave without buying Kevin something. Actually he bought two tractors with his own money from his allowance. It was still hard for him to accept that he only had $4 and couldn’t buy the $50 tractor he really wanted. We were firm with him and he got two $2 tractors.

Last week my husband had oral surgery. He had one impacted wisdom tooth left and he thought it was causing his top teeth to crowd together and affect his speech. He was really concerned because doing voice over work it’s starting to cause him some speech problems. We left the kids with our neighbor and I went with him. It’s horrible to say, but it was wonderful to sit in the waiting room and have an hour to myself. It was so funny when I got to go sit with Tom in the recovery room. He was so out of it he kept repeating the same story over and over and then he kept telling jokes. Of course later on he didn’t remember a thing! Now he has to go to an orthodontist because the surgeon said that the wisdom tooth wasn’t causing his teeth to crowd but the roots of the tooth were growing into his sinus cavity and it could have been causing him some other problems and to top it all off taking that tooth out may leave a small whole in his sinus cavity that will have to be closed up later.

We had a pretty nice Halloween. The weather was okay, it was cool but not too cool and at least it didn’t rain like it usually does around here. At Kevin’s preschool they have a Noah’s Ark party and the kids dress as animals. Kevin was a Tiger; luckily he got to wear the same costume as last year. When he came home from school I made him rest a while before we went out trick or treating. We went out with our neighbors who have kids exactly the ages as ours. Kevin was Superman and Maxx was Elmo. Maxx had no idea what was going on and he kept taking the Elmo hat off but I think he enjoyed the stroller ride. I think Kevin had fun but the other kid spent the entire time screaming at Kevin to stop this or stop that or Kevin you can’t do that. Sometimes they get along and sometimes they don’t. UUUGGGHHH! We really like the parents so we are all desperate for our kids to get along. At one point this kid said Kevin hit him, which is probably true but then this kid’s dad instead of asking Kevin why he hit his son told his kid to hit Kevin back. I can understand that he wants to teach his kid to stick up for himself but to Kevin it was just an indication that hitting is acceptable. After Trick or treating we all went to our neighbor’s house for pizza and the kids got to play. I have to say they did pretty well for it being a long day/evening. I think Kevin and the other child just need to play together more often. This family’s youngest son was sick so now we are all sick. Kevin actually missed school Monday. He didn’t have a fever but I didn’t want to infect any other kids. Isn’t amazing how you can blow your nose and then two seconds later you blow it gain. Where on earth does all that snot come from????!!!!

I was faced with a horrible reality this past weekend. My parents got together with all of their college friends. They have been getting together with them every year since they graduated. They used to get together every Christmas and for a while it was Christmas, Fourth of July, and then the 1st weekend of November. Now it’s just the Fourth of July and then occasionally the 1st weekend in November. Since we’ve been getting together with them all these years I’ve come to think of them as Aunts and Uncles. Last year one of them was diagnosed with ALS which disease that affects the person very quickly. They all managed to make the trek here to Illinois (they all live in Ohio), even the one who has ALS and had planned a trip to a local flea market. Why they thought this would be a good idea I can’t even imagine, but anyway I met them there. I also have to mention that about two weeks ago my Dad really hurt his back and we have since found out that he has a ruptured disc. So I met them there and as I was walking up to met them I was stunned to see my dad sitting on one of those scooters that you see people that have trouble walking use. I was just stunned to see him sitting there looking so old! It turns out that the scooter belonged to the one who has ALS but I was hit with the horrible reality that my parents are getting old, especially my Dad. We walked around the flea market for a while but I ended up leaving because Kevin was being an absolute beast but it was really hard to see my dad walking around with a Kane. He is also taking so much medication that he doesn’t even act like himself. My Mom told me one of the medications is used to treat anxiety and that he is able to express himself better so he’s been all sentimental and sappy which is completely out of character for him. My kids call him “Grumps” instead of Grandpa (which was his idea, by the way).

I had an okay week, other than screaming at Kevin every two minutes. I tried to eat a little better but I feel all bloated so I’m sure I must be getting ready to have another period. What else is AF good for other than being able to blame weight gain and mood swings, and headaches on, right? I got a lot of reading done and managed to get the whole house clean at once. Although, after I washed the floors Tom decided it would be a good time to make homemade chicken soup and Kevin decided to make his own sandwich. I couldn’t believe it and I let them know it too!

The rest of this week will be spent getting ready for Maxx’s 1st birthday party which we are having this Sunday. I have to clean, make the food and decorate the house. I can’t wait until it’s over! The weather is supposed to be chilly so I think everyone will be inside. Why do I let myself get roped into these huge parties anyway? Then it will be time to clean again. UUUGGGHHH!!! We also have Kevin’s parent teacher conference on Friday so I should have some really interesting things to write about next time.

I have also updated the kid’s websites with tons of new photo’s. So check them out! Some of them you have to click on to see better, just so you know!

P.S. Does anybody besides Kelly, Jen, and Candace read this? Just wondering!
