Kevin – 5 years old www.babiesonline.com/babies/k/kfro
Maxx - 10 ½ months www.babiesonline.com/babies/m/maxx
What we’re reading this week:
Kevin- The Littlest Pumpkin by R.A. Herman and The Giant Carrot by Jan Peck
Maxx- Happy Baby Farm by Priddy Bicknell and The Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown
Jenni- From The Corner Of His Eye by Dean Koontz (I’m about ¾ of the way through, this is one of his better novels)
Not much going on this week. Kevin had a so/so week at school; I only got one bad report. Well, she said,” he was having a rough day today” so I’m not exactly sure what that means and of course Kevin was out the door before I could ask. It was the day after my husband had the brilliant idea to take Kevin to a local restaurant to sit in the bar and watch the Cubs game all night. Apparently Kevin kept telling Tom that he was tired but Tom wouldn’t leave because it was such a good game. Actually we all went there for dinner but I left early with Maxx because once the game started and everybody started cheering Maxx got scared and started crying. Kevin had a great time but I guess it wasn’t a good idea on a school night. Kevin is in the afternoon preschool class so Tom thought it would be no big deal. We also went on a field trip with Kevin’s preschool class to a local pumpkin farm. We had a great time and he was pretty well behaved. Each of the kids got to pick out a pumpkin from the field to take home. Of course, they were supposed to pick one they could carry on their own and Kevin picked out one he could carry, the thing must weigh 15 lbs.! Kevin has another loose tooth; it’s the second one on the bottom. It’s just hanging there by a thread and I just noticed that the permanent tooth is growing in right behind it. Right now the two permanent teeth on the bottom are looking very crooked. I sure hope they don’t stay that way. I can’t remember what mine looked like at that point. After all, it WAS 30 years ago! The allowance chart thing is going okay; he managed to earn his first dollar. Only now I feel like I’m yelling at him more to get the things done on the chart, sigh.
Maxx had a good week in the sleeping department. A couple of nights he slept form 7:30 – 6:30 a.m. I was happy about that! He is also babbling up a storm, we still can’t make anything out but he is defiantly trying. Most of it sounds like “ah-da” and “hedo”. He stood alone this afternoon for a couple of seconds but he still shows no interest in walking holding our hands. Maxx has an infection around the foreskin of his penis. I noticed the area looked a little red and when I pulled it back it looks like the skin is split and it has white gunk coming out. Not knowing too much about the area I had Tom take a look at it. He thought it looked like the skin was split also but he thought it had fibers from the diaper in it. I had to explain to him that diapers don’t fall apart like that. Anyway, I took Maxx to the doctor and he said it looks like a yeast infection and he gave me a script for an anti-fungal medication. The original area looks better but now I’m noticing another area that looks like there is white stuff under the skin but the area is not split open. I swear, what will happen next with this kid? Kevin never had any of these things, not even a diaper rash! Maxx has had it all; a clogged tear duct, cradle crap (not a typo, by the way), eczema, an enlarged lymph node, and now this! I’m just hope Maxx doesn’t have to have his circumcision re-done. That would not be pleasant! I’ve always thought that it looked like he had too much foreskin. Kevin’s circ. was done by a different doctor in a different way and I never had a problem with his.
On the 1st birthday party front I ordered and received the invitations and thank you notes. Everything else that goes along with the “theme” has been discontinued so I will just use solid colored accessories that match. I also ordered the chocolate molds for the chocolate farm animal suckers and candies I’m going to make. I hope I get those in time; the website said there would be a 3-4 week delivery time. I should just make it! With my luck I’ll be up the night before making the stuff. Now Tom and I need to go over the guest list and decide on the menu before we send out the invitations, which need to be mailed out next week. We are having the party on November 9. I don’t mind planning these parties; I just hate being there for them. Basically I’m very shy and don’t do well in large crowds of people. I always feel like I’m being pulled in 10 different directions at these things, I never get to finish any conversation I’ve started. The only other part of planning for these events is that I seem to get Tom to do more to our house in the way of decorating and accessorizing. We need to finish the loft/library with accessories and then the only other room left to do is the family room, yeah!!!! I am not complaining by the way, we’ve only lived here two years and we’ve gotten a lot done!
I finally made it to my chiropractor appointment, and they never even brought up the detox. Darn and I had about ten different excuses all ready to use. My neck and sacrum feel a lot better though. I figured out what was causing my migraines. I started my period! It’s the first one I’ve had since getting pregnant with Maxx. Great, now I have monthly migraines to look forward too. Add that to my list of medical complaints to see a doctor about. Before I got pregnant with Maxx I was having them for the week before my period started and I was going through at least a box of Imitrex a month. I can’t believe my insurance wasn’t questioning it; Imitrex is about $300 a box (9 pills)! I defiantly need to have something done about them because they are so debilitating.
Its official, we are going to England in March for vacation. A couple of weeks ago we got an e-mail from Travelocity about a fare decrease and when my husband found out that the fares were available through next March he wouldn’t leave me alone until I agreed to go. We got round trip airfare from Chicago to Manchester for $251 round trip. Not bad, but I am so Leary of traveling with a sixteen month old. We took Kevin when he was 2 ½ and he did fine but Maxx is such a different child, he’s so much more schedule oriented. We will also be traveling with Tom’s parents. We went with them the last time also. Over all it was a good trip, but there were a few things that got on my nerves, but for the most part the trip was fine. So now Tom is in full vacation planning mode. We will be gone for 14 days and will spend 7 days in a self catering cottage. This is something a little bit different for us; usually we are on the go constantly so staying in one place for a week will be nice. After the 7 days are up we may part ways with his parents and either go to Wales or to southern England. Neither of us has seen southern England before. I can’t decide what I’d like to do and Tom is constantly asking if I’ve decided yet. In 2005 my parents are already talking about wanting to go somewhere tropical for their fortieth anniversary and want us to go with. I’m ready for just a family vacation for just our family. I think my parents want us to go and play tour guide and help them navigate the airport. My Dad is very uncomfortable in large crowds and new situations. Oh well, that’s not until 2005!
Has anyone been watching the Bachelor? Who do you think Bob will pick? My favorites (right now) are Meredith and Kelly Jo. I liked LeAnn on the first episode but she’s turning into a clinging, jealous B-t-h! The only other shows I watch (I mean tape) are Friends, Will and Grace, and ER. I’m so glad Luca’s not dead and feel bad for Abby.
I guess that is all this week, I wanted to talk about jealousy between our two families but I will leave that for another entry when my thoughts are more organized on the subject. Does anyone else have this problem? Please stop by my TTM board and just say “Hi”. I’d love to know whose reading.
Thanks, until next time,
Jenni, Kevin, and The Maxx Man
