Kevin - 5 years old (tomorrow)
Maxx -10 months

AAAAHHHHH….
We have been so busy; I don’t even know were to begin. I guess I’ll start with the diaper story I promised.

I took Kevin for a haircut before preschool started and because he was good I took him for a slurpy afterwards. When we got home Kevin ran up to Maxx and started feeding Maxx some of the slurpy. I wouldn’t have minded much except for the fact that Kevin choose the mountain dew flavor. I took them inside and changed Maxx and it took forever because he wiggles so much. I put him on his back and he immediately flips and stands up to try to get the Peter Rabbit cut outs we have hanging above the changing table (bad decorating idea!). I kept laying him down but I’d just get everything adjusted and he’d flip again. Half the time I end up getting the diaper on half lying down and half standing up. Okay, so now the little wiggly is all fresh and clean. I nursed him and since he didn’t fall asleep I let him crawl around and play with Kevin while I did some laundry. All of a sudden Kevin’s telling me Maxx puked mountain dew. I went in Kevin’s room and sure enough there’s Maxx sitting next to what looked like mountain dew. I cleaned it up but remember thinking that it was odd that only the mountain dew came up because I had just nursed him. I took them both downstairs for lunch and when I picked Maxx up I noticed his shorts were a little damp. I thought it was because he spit up or that the washing machine drain had backed up a little (it does this for some unknown reason sometimes when I wash a load of towels) and Maxx was crawling around in the laundry room. Anyway, I put Maxx in the highchair and ran back up to make sure that I cleaned up the water on the laundry room floor but the floor was dry. I thought that was a little odd but I didn’t think too much about it. I fed the kids their lunch and then left Maxx in the highchair while I got some things done in the kitchen. After I was done I put Maxx down and he made a beeline for the stairs and started to go up. When I grabbed him I noticed he seemed even more wet, so I pulled the shorts off and was going to let him crawl upstairs and then change his clothes. As he was crawling up the stairs I noticed that his little sack (lovely term we use for his testicles) was hanging out of the diaper. So now I think, “Boy, I bet that’s uncomfortable!” then I realized that not only is the sack hanging out but the whole package as well! So I now know the reason for the mountain dew on the floor! I put a clean diaper on Maxx but after much more wiggling I decided not to even try putting pants on over the diaper! Then I had to go disinfect the high chair, which was about an hour ordeal! Later on in the evening we all hopped in the car to go to the bank. I left Maxx in his shirt and diaper because we were going through the drive thru. On the way back at a stop light I look back to see Maxx with a hand full of fuzz and wonder, “what does he have now?” And then realize that he is now picking the cover of his diaper off! Lovely! I guess you had to be there. Oh well.

Now on to an update on all we’ve been up to.

Mostly we’ve spent the last two weeks getting ready for Kevin’s fifth birthday party. In hindsight we started way TOO MANY projects, but somehow everything came together in the end. I mentioned before that that we were re-doing our loft; we turned it from a hodgepodge of toys and TV to a library/TV room. My dad came over about three weeks ago to SHOW Tom how to build bookshelves. This was supposed to be my belated mother’s day present. Tom hates anything to do with building so he delayed as much as possible the day my Dad came over to show him how. It ended up that my Dad showed Tom how to do it and then after Tom went to work that afternoon my Dad completely built one 4 ft section and then he cut all the wood for another 4ft section so all Tom had to do was screw one unit together and wait for my Dad to come back to help him with the middle section that the TV was going in. So really my Dad did most of the work and then Tom waited until the day before my Dad came back to do what he was supposed to. They did get everything built and Tom stained it all. Because the bookshelves would be screwed to the wall I painted the remainder of the upstairs walls and the loft area. The wall where the bookshelves are is the same color as the other walls upstairs and the other two walls in the loft (which is actually just a three walled room) are faux finished using the woolly. It took me three evenings to do and Kevin’s bedtime got completely off schedule but I am so happy it’s finally done. Now the only room in our house that needs to be painted is the family room. Some how Tom and I managed to get the three book shelves upstairs by our selves and they are now installed and most of my books are up. I still have some books at my parents and after those are here I’ve managed to fill them all up already! The loft still needs some decorative accessories but for the most part it’s done. HOORAY!

We also still needed to plant all those bushes we purchased a couple of weeks ago. The ground around here was so hard that it was really difficult to dig a good size hole and it always seemed that wherever we decided to plant something there was a great big rock! Some how we also ended up buying two birch trees during this time also and those are planted. Then I decided that all my planters looked terrible so I ripped everything out of those and planted mums.

I spent two evenings on the web trying to find party supplies for the party. Last year when we were shopping for Kevin’s 4th birthday I bought some steam train table cloths, plates, invitations, and thank you notes just in case he decided he wanted another train party but we didn’t have enough for all the people we were inviting and of course the pattern was discontinued. I did manage to find some of the stuff on a website called shindigz.com. They also had really cute canvas treat bags; you could just buy the bags or you could get them filled. Looking back I should have just gotten them filled but I ended up doing it myself. I also wrote all the kids names on the bags with fabric paint. I also found a theme for a first birthday party that I liked for Maxx and I ordered it all but, of course that theme was discontinued also. Now I need to find something for him but at least I’ve got a whole month to figure that out. I can’t believe I have to have another one of these parties in only a month and a half, sigh!

After doing all of these things the house needed to be cleaned and the food needed to be made. I concentrated on cleaning and my husband made most of the food. He made bbq pulled chicken for sandwiches and homemade bratwurst. We still have tons of brats left over. For what we spent on meat alone we could have had the party catered, but as my husband said, he LIKES to do this?!?!?! I used to like to cook but since I met Tom he has done most of the cooking and now I’m a little intimidated by him. I feel like I can’t make just a simple dinner, I feel like it has to be some great masterpiece. Maybe after Maxx is a little older I’ll get back into cooking, although that was my New Years resolution for this year.

I’m always fine about these parties until they actually start then I start have anxiety about what Kevin is going to do or what he will be blamed for. Like I said we worked right up until the party stated and fifteen minutes before it started we realized that we had forgotten to pick up all the rolls so I headed to the store for those and made it back twenty minutes into the party. Luckily since I had Maxx to take care of I was able to get a way for a little bit and relax on my own. Another thing I hate about parties is making sure everyone has someone to talk too. One of our neighbors came alone and is very shy so I felt like I had to be at her side, luckily when our other neighbors came they took her under their wing and talked to her the whole time. I guess the worst thing that happened was that Kevin called someone a “butthead” or something like that. What little boy doesn’t say that? Of course, one of my nieces had to tattle on him for it. Their whole goal when they are around him is to get Kevin into trouble. That is another whole entry, though. The other thing was the kids getting upset while we were playing games. I was really unsure about the whole game thing but I felt like it would keep the kids out of trouble if we kept them occupied. We did a piñata, played Simon says, and hot potato. I got the prizes at the dollar store. All in all the party seemed to go very well. Luckily the weather was nice so most of the party was outside; the thought of having 40 people in my house was not a pleasant one! I put an end time on the invitation but some people stayed around. Which was fine but I wanted everyone with kids to have an out. My husband didn’t agree with having an end time and had to remind me that people did stay past the time given on the invitation. He was all smug until I pointed out that everyone with kids except one couple had left. Most of the party is now cleaned up but there are still a few things to put away and a few area’s of carpet that need to be steamed clean but we are pretty much back to normal.

The kids and I have all been sick. Maxx started it he had a temperature and diarrhea and then Kevin got it. After they got well I came down with a cold and now Kevin and Maxx both have that. It’s probably stuff Kevin is bringing home from Preschool. Preschool by the way is going very well this year. I gotten a good report every time I’ve picked Kevin up, which is a great relief. He is also talking about school more so I know he is having fun. We decided to do an award system for his behavior at school so maybe that has been helping. If he gets so many stickers he will get an agreed upon reward. This time he earned a Lionel train.

I think I have finally gotten Maxx interested in books, yeah! He has actually sat thru a few. I was getting worried because when Kevin was this age he’d sit and look at books himself. Maxx also likes the wiggles and teletubbies. I think he like the music. Anytime anything with music comes on his little legs start moving. He still doesn’t seem to like toys. The only toys he’ll play with are the little people farm animals, other than that he likes to drag around my plastic colander and some tubes of Vaseline from his changing table. I give them to him to distract him while I ‘m changing his diaper (don’t worry we take them away). We think Maxx has said his first words, which are “Hi Dada”. I think he has said “good stuff” also. Most of the time he says dadadadada. He only says MAMAMA when he is upset. He really loves his Daddy so it wouldn’t surprise me that Dada is his first word. Maxx has also stood alone for a couple of seconds and he walks a little holding onto a little fisher price activity walker. We have to really watch him with it because he doesn’t always move his feet as it goes forward and he falls flat on his face!

I went to my chiropractor for a performance evaluation. A performance evaluation is where they take a good look at you to see if your condition has improved and weather or not you need a different schedule of care. I’ve been going every week to every two weeks since I was 10 weeks pregnant with Maxx. My greatest areas of concern are my neck and my lower back, actually my sacra-illium joint on the left side. I still need to go every other week. I also brought up the concerns I had with my weight and he wanted me to do a modified detoxification. He gave a list of foods to eat from. Basically it’s just cutting out dairy and grains and any foods with a high acid content. Of course I haven’t started it yet. I was all psyched when I left his office but with all the party food I decided that I would start at after Kevin’s actual birthday. We also didn’t have room in our refrigerator for all the food because of the party food. I have thought of a few menu ideas but I am stumped for a dressing for salad that doesn’t have dairy in it or vinegar.

I think my husband must have read my last diary entry. Usually I type it up on word and then copy/paste it to my diary page. I didn’t delete the entry from my file folder. The reason I think he read it is because he brought up that he does NOT want anymore children. He was supposed to get a vasectomy but for some unknown reason hasn’t done it yet. It surprises me because he was so excited (Good word?) about doing it before. Then he tells me I need to go on the pill until he gets around to having the vasectomy. Yeah right!!!! We have been using a laid back version of natural family planning for 5 years and have only gotten pregnant when we wanted and as far as I’m concerned that’s what we will continue to use and if I get pregnant, oh well, then that is what was meant to be!

I guess that’s all for now. I’m off to watch The Bachelor, normally I don’t care too much for reality TV but I don’t mind this one. I can’t wait for Friends and ER tomorrow night! I usually have to tape anything I want to watch because I usually putting the kids to bed. I’m going to update Kevin’s website with some birthday pictures:
