Kevin 4 3/4
Maxx 9 months
Hello Everyone,
MAXX
Maxx is 9 months and I have yet to make his 9 month checkup. I'll have to do that next week. I can't wait to see how much he weighs and how long he is. I could do without the shots though. Maybe I'll get Tom to come along too and he can go through it with me. What else is Maxx up to...he crawls everywhere. He can go upstairs but not very well yet. He pulls up and creeps along furniture. He can also get down from a standing position. No words yet but he does babble alot. Maxx has 6 teeth: 4 up and 2 down. More may be coming, he's been kind of crabby the past couple of days. Best of all Maxx is a great sleeper. He usually sleeps about 3 hours at some point during the day and then goes down at night between 7-8 and gets up between 5-6 in the morning. The mornings are what I hate. I'm NOT a morning person. Maxx eats just about everything, he loves table food. What are some things you feed your kids when they're at that in between babyfood and table food stage?
Okay, I promised to tell you how Justin became Maxx. Maxx's full name is Justin Maxximilian Robert. Before Maxx was born we were having a tough time coming up with a boys name. Our girls name was Delaney Justine; Delaney after Dana Delaney (my favorite show of all time is China Beach) and Justine afer my grandmother. So I suggested Justin being that it's the male version of Justine. He was't crazy about it but agreed. Robert is after the many Roberts in both our families. So it was all settled, Justin Robert. About 2 weeks before he was born I had to a little shopping to do and I took Kevin with. He asked where we were going and said" Oh, Marshalls or T.J. Maxx." then Kevin says" Maxx.. that would be a good name for my brother". At this point I did't feel like arguing with him so I said," That's cute, we'll keep that in mind". Well he kept telling everyone that his brothers name was going to be Maxx and the name was growing on me. Tom didn't like it though. After I had the baby we talked about it and Tom kept insisting we go with Justin beacause we shouldn't let a 4yr old make that decsion. So I suggested we make Maxx part of his name so that if Kevin did call him Maxx it would atleast be part of his real name. After we signed the birth certificate and came home from the hospital he was refered to as "the baby" because no one wanted to make Tom mad. Finally he started refering to him as Maxx so that's who he became. Now I can't even imagine calling him Justin. although he does have many nicknames. Right now he's "the Maxx Man", Maxxarino", Maxxajillion, and "Rino B".
Poor kid!
KEVIN
(Kevin was named after a cat)
Kevin had a pretty uneventful week. He got to play with a neighbor boy and played nicely. Even though we live in a new subdivision and there are lots of kids, they live down the street from us and I don't feel comfortable letting him go down there unsupervised. I would go down with him but there don't seem to be any adults willing to come out and chat. I cetainly don't want to be standing in someone elses driveway supervising the whole neighborhood. Any advice?
Kevin is really into bugs. He was very excited to find a caterpiller in our garden. He had a great time looking it up in our butterfly to find out what kind it was. He kept it in a bucket for a while and then I made him put it back. It was a black swallowtail and those butterflies are so pretty!
What did we do this summer?
We've done a lot of landscaping this summer. Today, in fact, we just got a bunch more shrubs. They were a great deal so we couldn't pass them up. Gardening is just one of our many hobbies.
I love to read and I just finished reading East of Eden (Oprahs new pick). I'd love to hear what everyone else is reading so feel free to offer suggestions. Kevin is also a big book lover. We're almost done with the firstlevel of Hooked on Phonics. We did the summer reading program at 2 libraries and Kevin discovered the non-ficion section. He calls it the "live action" section. I'm getting a little tired of only being able to read non-fiction and no fiction. Tonight we read books on aviation and fire safety (yawn, yawn). We did discover one new childrens book it's called The Giant Carrot. It's really cute so check it out.
We just returned from a ten day vacation to Colorado. We flew out and my parents drove out (we went to England with Toms parents two years ago, it was my turn). We did mainly kid things. We went to the Forney transportation museum, the Colorado railway museum, and Tiny Town. It was mostly train oriented because Kevin is so into trains. we went down to Durango and took a 3 hr steam train ride to Silverton. It takes you through the San Jaun National forest. If anyone in your family is a train buff this is the thing for them! One thing that Maxx enjoyed was Ocean Journey. It's an aquarium and it has glass tanks that go from floor to ceiling and you can push the stroller right up to it. They have one tank that's a coral reef and it has all the fish from Finding Nemo. Maxx really loved looking at all the colorful fish. The only downside to the trip was the plane ride back. The weather was really bad in Chicago so we spent 3 hours in the plane by the gate and 3 hours in plane on the runway waiting to take off! Kevin did okay but Maxx was a handful. I was stuck in the middle of the row between them.
So that was our summer. Next week we have to get Kevin ready to go back to preschool and Maxx has to have his 9 month check up.
Thanks for reading!
Jenni, Kevin, and Maxx
