Introduction

A lot has happened since last I wrote. Thanks to everyone who gave me suggestions for how to contain my lil' Houdini. As it happens, he hasn't escaped his room again. I tried putting a new doorknob cover on and locking the door. This kept him in place enough that he finally gave up trying to get out. He has also stopped trying to go out to the deck. Of course, having the Christmas tree up probably served as a more attractive nuisance. It took awhile to keep him away from that, too.

And we did have a lovely, albeit busy Christmas this year. Jake had started waking up really early (6 to 6:30), but slept in until almost 8 on Christmas Day--yippee! He was very patient about waiting for Allie to wake up and eat. Until he ran out of juice, that is. Before he could throw a full-blown fit, Chris held him up to look over the "loft" wall, so he could look downstairs at the tree. He got all excited, and started shouting "toys", and "downstairs". So down we went.

He loved his Fisher Price Power Tool Workstation that Santa brought him, he didn't even bother to open the rest of his gifts. I kept encouraging him to open a present, but he'd either ignore me or say "open, pease", leaving me to do it all. He also got a Bob the Builder lego set (from Grandpa), which he's crazy about, too.

Allie slept through the gift opening, but was wide awake and fussy while we tried to get everything cleaned up before the families came over. We lucked out and had time to put Jake down for his nap. Chris and Allie and I curled up on the couch together, and we fell asleep, too! We woke up just before folks began arriving.

The next day I spent nursing a sick hubby. Chris joked all the day before about calling in sick, but really got sick. He had a nasty fever and chills, which broke by morning, leaving him weak as a kitten. Thankfully, Jake had all his new toys to keep him occupied so Daddy was able to rest.

Friday was another big day for Jake. I got a call that afternoon that a friends' son was sick and unable to go to see Sesame Street Live that night. They offered us the tickets, which was great, since the show sold out by the time I could afford them. Jake had a BLAST! The seats were really good, but the finale was the best part. Elmo disappeared from the stage, and reaappeared three feet from where we were sitting. Jake's jaw was on the floor for a out five seconds. Once he recovered, he started shouting, "Elmo, Elmo, ELmo!" It was so much fun, I'm thinking of taking him next year.

Speaking of next year, that's only about six hours away--I can hardly believe it. So much has happened this year, most all of it good. I can only hope that 2002 will be a good one for us, too.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Jen & Jacob =)
