Jen B's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

November 26, 2001

I can't believe Thanksgiving has come and gone already! This year is going by way too fast for me. The weekend before last, Chris and I dragged the kids out to the mall for a marathon shopping excursion. We wanted to finish up our Christmas shopping, so we could relax and enjoy the holidays.

Lucky for us, my mom had picked up the double stroller for us the day before. It's her Christmas and baby gift to Allison. Jake just gets too distracted in the stores and can't just hold your hand and walk beside you. And Allie loved riding around with all the noise and lights. I think that was the longest she'd been awake and alert thus far. Unfortunately, Jake started having a meltdown before we were really ready to leave. So we paid for the stuff in our hands and called it a day.

The rest of the week continued in much the same way. He is getting less and less patient about letting me get things done. He also notices when I'm busy with Allie to get into trouble. He knows if I'm doing anything else, I'll drop it to discipline him. I can't wait for him to get over this phase. Ugh.

Thanksgiving turned out to be quite a nice day. Mom cooked the turkey and most of the meal. She and my aunt brought it over to our house, Connie brought the appetizers and two desserts, I made the fruit salad and a pie, and my sister and her fiance brought their appetites. Everyone took turns passing Allie around, and played with Jake. He loved all the attention.

The next night was Chris's 10-year high school reunion, and our first night out without the kids (plural). It was nice, and of course, those of us with kids ended up showing off photos and comparing notes.
Saturday afternoon was a NIGHTMARE. We took the kids to get portraits done. Jake screamed and threw fits. Allie slept. I did get great one of her, the family (Xmas) one was okay, and Jake looked adorable in the one of just the two of them, but she'd fallen asleep and it looked like her neck was broken. Maybe it'll be better when I take them for Allie's six-month pics. I can only hope . . .

Today is back to the usual grind. I have my six-week postpartum checkup tomorrow afternoon, but have nothing else planned this week. Maybe I'll be able to find more one on one time with Jake. I really feel like I've taken the poor guy for granted. He's always been so good at entertaining himself and never needed a lot of attention from me. Of course, he didn't have "competition" before, either. We'll get this figured out somehow.

'Later,

Jen & Jacob =)
