Jen B's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

November 8, 2000

Jacob is officially a WALKER now! While he's been able to take unaided steps for a few months now, he's finally started taking off on his own. He started letting go a bit more on Sunday, a bit more on Monday and yesterday, he chased me around the library! I've come to the conclusion that he's waited so long to really take off because our house is pretty small and cluttered (with his toys), so there's always something for him to hold onto. The library and my mom's living room have more open spaces for him to roam around in.

While I'm excited and very proud of him, I now have a whole new set of worries. He's going to be into even more stuff than before, and I was already running ragged trying to keep up! That, and it's just one more step toward his independence. I guess that's all part of the job.

On another note, I began the battle of the binky yesterday. I decided I was tired of searching for lost dropped/thrown binks, and Jake tends to use them as teethers anyway. I used the suggestion of a friend, and cut the tip off. It hasn't done much to dissuade him, though he has noticed. I may have cut off too much, so I'll try cutting more of it off a little bit at a time. Eventually he'll get the hint-I hope.

He's been very fussy and clingy today. It gets on my nerves when I'm trying to get something done (laundry, dishes), but I love it that he'll let me hold and cuddle him. He's usually too busy for more than a quick hug.

Jen & Jacob =)
