Jen B's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

November 6, 2000

Tomorrow will be a big day for us, and not just because it's Election Day. I've decided it's time to say goodbye to the binky, and tomorrow will be the big day.

I'm not doing this because of any comments made (thought there have been a few), but because I've grown tired of picking up dropped binkies, chasing down one that's lost and having a drooly one stuck into my mouth at inopportune moments.

I know I'll be in for some cranky days, as Jacob is still teething madly. A few days ago I noticed the inner side of the molar coming through. It's been almost a month since we first noticed it (the outer side). I'd love to wait until this one comes through, but there may be another one on the way by then, so now's as good a time as any.

Speaking of cranky days, we made the mistake of taking Jacob to the movies with us this weekend. We thought we'd take in a matinee of "Charlie's Angels", which we'd really wanted to see. We saw about an hour of it, cumulatively. The little guy was great through the previews and the first five minutes of the movie. After that, he got restless and fussy. Snacks, juice and standing in the back of the theater didn't work. Neither did walking around the lobby. Chris and I took turns for awhile trying to settle him, but we gave up.

I guess we took it for granted that he's SO good for us in restaurants and stores. It just didn't occur to us how different (or difficult) sitting in a darkened movie theater for two hours would be. Oh, well--lesson learned.

I have to mention something really cute that Jacob did this week. He discovered Pookie, Chris's old teddy bear. He hasn't shown any interest in his other stuffed animals. but he hugged Pookie and kept touching his nose and mouth. It was adorable, and even Chris got misty eyed. We had planned to pass him on to Jake when he was a bit older, but guess who put the bear in Jake's crib that night?

We're so lucky to have such a cuddly little guy. Whenever he walks or crawls to me, he gives me big hugs. I absolutely love it, and plan to enjoy every minute of his affection, because it won't be long before my mere presence causes him terminal embarrassment.

Oh, and our little guy has been trying to walk more. He's been standing a lot, too -- usually in the middle of the room. It's almost like he can't decide what to do next. We've caught him taking more and more steps (uncoached) without holding on. I guess it won't be long before I have to run to catch him. I'm up to a brisk walk as it is!

Jen & Jacob =)
