What a busy weekend we just had! I had to attend a seminar Saturday morning in Dallas, Pa. That's about an hour and 15 minutes from where we live. I didn't have the best directions, so we got a bit lost. While stopping to ask for directions, we ran into another group of people on their way to the same seminar. Talk about God working in mysterious ways. The seminar was for Prevention of Child Sexual Misconduct (within the church).
I have to admit that other than a few statistics, I didn't learn a whole lot, but I needed the certificate from the diocese since I'm working with the youth at our church. Poor Jacob was bored and restless, for which I can't blame him. He started throwing things, and fussing. Everyone kept telling me how well behaved he was, which made me wonder what their kids were like!
As soon as the seminar was over, we rushed home to pick Chris up to go to Alex's first birthday party. Alex is the son of Jacob's godparents, and his mommy and I spent lots of time together during our pregnancies. It's been nice to have a friend going through so many of the same things, though we don't see each other as often now. =(
Jacob enjoyed the party, especially when Alex's cousins (all girls) kept giving him kisses. He's gonna be a heartbreaker, I can tell now. He just loved all the attention. He also had fun joining the other kids (most all of them under 3) in playing with Alex's new toys. I got some cute pictures. Too bad I ran out of film before we got to the cake.
On Monday, we went up to Connie's. My brother and sister-in-law were there with their daughter, whom Jacob hadn't seen in awhile. He screamed when we got there, though. The last time he'd seen them, he'd stayed with them overnight. The same with Connie, who wasn't even home yet! He settled down once he realized we weren't going anywhere.
We had a pretty good visit, though the kids are definitely not ready for the concept of sharing. They kept "fighting" over a battery-operated keyboard. Other toys and distractions weren't working too well, either as both kids are very stubborn. The good news is, Jake did a good bit of walking. He took seven or eight steps, the most he's done so far! It was so fun to watch, though it does make me nervous.
I spent the next day in bed half the day, as I had a terrible sore throat and NO VOICE. DH wasn't feeling well either, but he could at least talk, so he helped out with Jacob. I did go to the doctor, but she told me it was probably viral, and I should just keep doing what I was already doing (saltwater gargles, ibuprofen, lots of fluids, and rest).
I'm feeling slightly better today, and have some voice, but am trying to conserve it. Not easy to do with a toddler in the house.
Okay, I've written a book now, so I'll close. Got to get some sleep anyway--what's that????
