Jacob went in for his 2 year checkup yesterday, and it was his first visit with the new doctor. I was none too impressed with the office staff, though. I made a special trip by there on Monday to drop off my signed medical records release form that the "old" pediatrician had sent me. The lady looked at me as if I were from outer space, and said I didn't need to bring it to her, that I should've mailed it. I said I didn't get it until Saturday, so I brought it by so they could fax it in and maybe have at least some of the records in time for Jake's appointment the next day. She said she'd see what she could do.
So yesterday, they can't find the fax, but are telling me it doesn't matter, that I needed to mail it. I asked why, since every other time I've had to switch doctors, the new one always requested the records. They seemed surprised at this, and just gave me a new form to fill out and take to/mail to the old ped. They would have cancelled my appointment, too, if I hadn't been so meticulous about keeping up with Jake's shot records (and having the dr. sign off for each one) and growth charts.
The actual doctor was great, and Jake had even started warming up to him by the end of the visit. Jake weighed in at 27 lbs, 12 oz, and measured 34-1/2 inches tall. I think the height is off, since they put him on a table to measure him, and his legs weren't quite straght. Anyway, I opted for the chicken pox vaccine, though, so the next visit may not be so smooth. Luckily, it's a year away.
I had previously declined to get this particular shot before. Partly, because Jake was already getting three of four shots per checkup, which was really hard on him. And I hadn't read enough data to convince me that it would be sufficient to prevent him from getting the pox when he was older, when it's more dangerous. I figured I'd give him a chance to get them the old fashioned way.
I have my hands full today, since Kailey is here for the day. Her mommy and Connie went to a taping of the "Millionaire" show. She and Jake are getting along pretty well, which is nice. They had some time to play last Saturday, too, since Chris decided to head up to their house to visit. While it's great that the cousins get to see each other, both tend to get lonely and clingy when they're home alone. Of course, Jake won't be alone with me for much longer . . .
