My little boy is 2 years old! We kept things pretty low-key on Friday. We did go out to dinner and gave him a few of his smaller presents. He liked having the wait staff sing to him, but when they put his dessert in front of him (with the lighted candle), he pushed it away and said hot. I guess the lil' man actually listens to me once in awhile. Even the waittress said he was a smart boy to know not to play with fire.
His party (Saturday) went very well, and we had a nice turnout. I didn't really have any activities planned, except for Pin the Tail on the Donkey, which the kids weren't really into. They had much more fun playing with each other. His favorites were the Hot Wheels police station, the baby doll, a shopping cart, and the Scooby-Doo play tent.
The only real downer was not giving him the Jeep. We had to buy a new battery for it, but Fisher Price has changed the connectors. My aunt offered to fix it, but she hurt her knee really bad and wasn't well enough to do it. Thankfully, Jake has no idea that it's still sitting in the basement.
A few words on today's tragedies. I first heard about the Trade Center and Pentagon attacks while I was visiting one of my boards. I immediately logged off so I could check on those I knew who might be involved. My sister's future MIL (Marilyn) works at the Trade Center, and Audrey, my step-MIL works for the DOD and often gets sent to DC. Thankfully, both are okay. Marilyn was on the 30th floor when the attack began, but was able to get out unharmed. Audrey was in DC at the National Airport when the Pentagon was hit, but is fine.
I wish I had something profound to say about these terrible acts of violence, but I find myself speechless. I will be praying and hugging my family tightly tonight.
