September 4, 2001
Labor Day weekend proved to be the relaxing mini-vacation Chris and I had been hoping for. We went to my mom's on Saturday and played with the puppies (my aunt's dog had a litter of 3 a few weeks ago). Then we went to the local fair, and ate junky food, looked at the farm animals, and played carnival games. We won Jake 6 bags of M&Ms, his favorite.
We gave the "naked" potty training approach a try, but Jake did not take to it well at all. For a child that doesn't like to wear clothes, he would get upset when we left his diaper off. He'd cry and try to put another diaper on by himself. I know you're supposed to be consistent with this stuff, but I don't see the point until we find an approach that works. We talked about putting some big boy underpants for him, and letting him wear those a few times. This way, he'll fell himself going potty, but can still be wearing something.
Jake learned how to count to five this weekend, too! He can almost go to ten, but tends to forget #5 when he does. And best of all, he also has started giving Mommy real kisses!! He's been a great hugger for awhile now, but Jacob kisses are the BEST! I know, it's pretty sappy of me, but I don't care. Poor Daddy still feels left out on that one, though.
Today was the first of several busy days this week. We met my sister for lunch. She can't make it to Jake's party this weekend, but wanted to do something special for him. She forgot to bring his gift, but brought him a toy bus (the kind you pull back and let go) that she got in Niagra Falls last week. He, of course, loves it, since he's really into toy cars/trucks right now.
Then we ran to my doctor's appointment (I'm 31 weeks along). I gained 12 lbs this week, but I don't have the swelling I did with Jake. Everything else looks normal, though. The doc said after my next belly check, he wants to talk about induction. I have mixed feelings about that, but it will be much easier to make sure we have a sitter for Jake if we go that route.
Now all I have to do is find a way to get ALL the grocery/party shopping, clean the house, and wrap Jake's presents before his party on Saturday. Despite my previous worries, it looks like we'll have a nice turnout. I just hope the weather will be good. A jungle-themed party works best outdoors, don't you think?
