Jen B's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

August 27, 2001

Well, it seems I got to be right about something for once. After many days of questioning my parental fitness, Jake's ankle seems to be fine. I really worried over whether I should call the doc again, but I hated to put him through the ordeal of having an xray.

But when MIL babysat him on Wednesday, she didn't notice any problems, and he only limped a little bit on Thursday when we went to visit a friend. He was so busy playing with her daughters, I don't think he noticed any pain. By the weekend (when Chris was home), Jake was running all over the yard. So it seems I wasn't too far off the mark that he proably just twisted his ankle, and avoided walking on it because he was afraid it would hurt. And the whiny/clingy stuff was due to boredom and lonliness now that we're back home and he doesn't have any kids to play with.

Potty training is pretty much at a standstill. I've decided to try another method this week. I'm going to let him run around diaperless all afternoon, instead of setting aside a few blocks of "potty time" each day. While he was all too happy to climb on the potty, he didn't seem to know what to do once he was there. He will grab toilet paper and try to wipe himself, flush, and reach up to wash his his hands, though. And he was fascinated watching Daddy go peepee, so I he does seem intersted.

I have to say a few more words about our visit last Thursday. Jake had a lot of fun playing with the girls, but it seems he likes playing with Caroline, the youngest girl the best. She's eight months old, and it is SO cute to watch the two of them hugging and kissing on each other. And I really enjoyed the chance to talk to another grown-up my age. I keep thinking we'll have to visit with them more often, but we'll probably see them again at Jake's party.

And it looks like we've finally found a way to get Jake's hair cut without screaming fits. Chris bought a set of electric clippers a few weeks ago, and gave them a try last night. Much to my surprise, Jake gave us no problem at all. He almost seemed to enjoy it! This is quite a releif, since his hair grows so quickly, and cutting it at home is so much more convenient (cheaper, too)! My only complaint is that Dh got a little happy with the clippers, and Jake's hair is barely longer than a buzz cut. It's also blonde now! I miss the red, but we figure it will darken again in a few weeks. He's still quite the handsome lil' devil, if you ask me. Maybe this time I'll remember to to take a post-haircut photo.

I'm looking forward to a nice, relaxing week and long holiday weekend.
