Jen B's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

August 14, 2001

We're back from our week at the beach. We had SO much fun, and it was great getting to see family and friends again. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see my grandmother. She came down with some kind of rash and was quarrantined. But Jake had a blast playing with his cousins, and even learned how to say Kevin and Kyle's names. I got some cute pics of all the grandsons playing together.

We only made it down to the beach one day, though. Jake did NOT care to be near the water, but he did seem to like playing in the sand for awhile. Mostly he enjoyed wandering off down the beach. The pool was a much bigger hit. He loved playing on th steps and '"swimming" with Mom and Dad. He even learned to kick like a big boy! He also loved the swim noodles, and said "noodle, noodle, noodle" constantly.

He didn't care for mini golf, but he (of course) had fun shopping, eating out, and going to Ripley's Aquarium. Daddy helped him get over his fear of elevators, by showing him what buttons to push. Now he's created a monster(sigh). He also learned how to drink out of a straw!!!!

We found some cute things for Jake's bday party while we were down there, too. Glad we did, since the big 0-2 is creeping up pretty quickly. So far, we've gotten him the jeep, some washable markers, the Baby Doolittle tape, and the Pick 'Em Up Truck from Tupperware. We still need to get him some clothes, but that will probably be it. I'd love it big boy underpants were needed, too, but I'm not holding my breath.

I've decided we'll give the potty training thing a go this weekend. Jake needs time to get back on his regular schedule, and I need to get a stepstool and extra potty seat for upstairs. He also needs time for his ankle to heal.

Apparently, he twisted it getting out of bed Sunday morning. When I came to get him after he woke up, he was on the floor behind his door. I picked him up and put him on our bed, but he refused to climb off and come downstairs when I said it was time. Normally, he scrambles off the bed, and races me down. Chris had to carry him, and he crawled all day. Chris looked at his feet, and saw no brusing or swelling, and couldn't feel anything broken. HE wasn't screaming in pain, so I gave him some Tylenol, and we tried to get him to put weight on it (his left foot).

He still wasn't walking yesterday morning, so we went to the doctor. We didn't see Jake's regular ped, but I liked this guy much better. He agreed with our decision to wait and see, and said since he was able to get Jake to walk a bit (with a limp), that he wanted us to keep up what we were doing. If we didn't see improvement in 24-48 hours, he'd order xrays. Jake has been walking a bit more, but I have to really encourage him to do so, and there's still a limp. I'll see how he does tomorrow before I call in.

Poor kid. He doesn't have the vocabulary to tell me where it hurts or how bad, which is what I really need to know.
Maybe if we can fit in a shopping trip this afternoon, he'll cheer up a bit.

Jen & Jake =)
