Jen B's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

July 25, 2001

I got a night "off" last night! After two days of stifling heat and three days of sciatic nerve pain, I had to get out of the house. So I went out with my mom. We just went to the mall, but I found a new outfit for the beach trip, and we looked at baby clothes. It was nice just to talk to another adult, and not have someone screaming in my ear.

Speaking of my little maniac, it looks like we'll be bringing his potty with us on our beach trip. He almost pooped in it yesterday. I caught him making the telltale faces, so I asked if he wanted to go potty. He ran into the bathroom, but had gone in his diaper by the time I could get it off. I still put him on the potty, and praised him for trying. I wiped his bum, and let him flush the big potty and held him up to wash his hands (I need to get him a stepstool). I'd have run out and bought training pants if it weren't for this beach trip. I just don't think it's a good idea to do that while we're travelling, no matter how flexible he can be. Still, it would be encouraging to have the potty there, and I'll take advantage of any opportunities that present themselves.

Only 9 days 'till we leave for Myrtle Beach. It looks like we'll be detouring through my old hometown so we can visit with some friends and my grandmother on the way down. I'm at that frustrating point where the trip is close enough to get excited, but it's still too soon to do much preparaton. This heat wave hasn't helped. At least down south, everyone has air conditioning. Someone PLEASE remind me if I decide to have another baby NOT to end up pregnant during the summer!

Now I have a little vent aobut my dear husband. I've been trying to figure out what to get Jacob for his birthday (besides clothes), and I thought a kitchen set would be nice. Chris won't have it, and suggested we get him a tool rack/workshop. But Jake loves helping me in the kitchen, and there are some really cute sets out there. He also hates the idea of getting Jake a doll to practice being a big brother with. Come, on, how much of a male chauvanist pig can he be?? I can't do much about the kitchen, but the doll I can buy and slip in with the other presents at the party. Chris won't even notice until everyone is gone, and since it's a gift, he won't be able to say too much. Sneaky, aren't I???

Okay, I'd better got get the lil' man, he's upstairs playing on the computer again.

Jen & Jacob =)
