For once, we've had an uneventful past few weeks. Jacob and I have been going to Vacation Bible School for the past several Sundays, which has put me in a few tough situations. When I signed Jake up for this, I thought he'd have fun doing the activities, and I'd be available to help out, and even teach a couple sessions. I guess I overestimated Jake's tolerance levels, because he's either clung to me or tried to run off each week. The second week he had a meltdown that made 3 Mile Island look like spilled milk. Ugh. And since Sunday is the one day Chris can count on having off each week, I hesitate to start leaving Jake at home. I got smart last week and brought the playpen, so I
had a safe place to put him while I made myself useful. He seemed to like the attention, since a lot of the little girls would hang out by the playpen to watch him and talk to him.
The other dilemma that has presented itself is when BIL called to tell Chris that they are (finally) getting Kailey baptized, and would Chris be the godfather. They didn't know when the ceremony would be, but Chris was supposed to get some kind of certificate from his old parish, stating he was a Catholic in good standing. Since Chris hasn't set foot in that (or any other Catholic) church in 5 years, was married in an Episcopal ceremony, and his kid(s) aren't being raised Catholic, I was concerned that he would not be accepted. Not only that, but when they called us with the date for the baptism last week, it was for 7/15. That's one of the weeks I'm teaching Bible school! I really want to be there for Kailey, but I committed to teaching that week two months ago!
Turns out the ceremony will be after the noon mass, which allows me to be there for the first half of Bible school, and still make it to the baptism. I'm so relieved, I hate the thought of letting anyone down.
In other news, Jake has become quite the copycat. His latest phrase is "see ya", which he picked up from Bob the Builder. We've had to be really careful what we say in front of him. That gets really hard for Chris, since he tends to come home from work with potty mouth.
I'm hoping the weather holds out tomorrow, because we're planning to go to MIL's house to use the pool (in her development). We went last Thursday, but all he wanted to do was be chased around the lounge chairs. I did get him in the water, but he didn't want to stay for long. We also went on Monday, and he got into the water more, and even let me hold him on his belly while he splashed around. It was cute. I'm trying to get him used to the water, since we're going to the beach next month.
Guess I'd better start slathering on the sunscreen . . .
