May 24, 2001
It's been another whirlwind week at our house. The shopping expedition in Allentown turned out to be a lot of fun. I forgot to bring Jake's stroller, but Mom, Cyndi, and I just took turns holding his hands. He loved walking and looking around.
I even stopped into the Motherhood Maternity store to see if they had any swimsuits I liked (just out of curiosity). Sure enough, they had a really cute one that was much nicer than the one I bought on my birthday. It was the same price, so I tried it on. Jake had fun crawling under the dressing room door, and knocking on it. Unfortunately, he also had fun opening it, too! My mom and sister were laughing so hard, they didn't bother to stop him. I had to hold the door shut with one hand, and hold my clothes over my with the other. Since I had left the tags on the other suit, I decided to buy this one and return the other.
The only glitch in the day was at the end of dinner when Jake threw up. It was just after he tasted some of my honey mustard sauce. Poor guy so desperately wanted me to hold him, but I was trying to clean him off enough that we could drag him to the restroom. We ended up having to strip him down to a diaper and socks, and (of course), I had no extra clothes for him with me. It was a warm enough day, and he was much happier being naked anyway. He was fine on the ride home, so I guess it was just the sauce.
Our housewarming went off pretty well, even though it was just family and one of our friends. The weather was lovely and perfect for grilling out. Jake had fun going in and out of the house, and having his family around. He also has a new girlfriend. Our friend brought her three daughters (5, 3, and 6 mos), and Jake absolutely fawned over the baby. He kissed and hugged her, and she even slobbered on him a few times, too. It was SO cute! Jake played with the older girls, but was crazy about the baby. I can't wait to get the photos developed!
Unfortunately, the next few days were not as nice. I got a nasty sinus infection that set in Saturday night. I was so miserable Sunday, but had my class to teach, and meeting after church. I had taken some Sudafed in the morning, and was okay by the time I got to church, but halfway through the meeting, I was pulled aside because Jake was sick. Again, no extra outfit (a problem I have since remedied), so he went home in a borrowed onesie. And wouldn't you know it, my meds wore off on the drive home. We went straight to bed, but Chris was at a golf tournament, so I had to get Jake when he got up, even though I was still feeling awful.
I went to the doctor on Monday, and was given antibiotics and an inhaler (for the wheezing). He wants to test me for asthma after the baby is born, too. No real surprise, since my mom has it.
I had my OB appointment on Tuesday, and it was the longest wait time ever! I couldn't reschedule, because my mom took off work early to watch Jake (they had me scheduled for an internal, though I didn't think I needed one). As I suspected, once the doc got a look at my records, and saw that I had all that stuff done, he did a belly check, listened to the heartbeat, and a basic check for problem signs. He felt my throat and said I should have my other doc check my thyroid. But he (the other guy) did detect swelling there, and attributed it to the sinus infection. So I'll finish the anitbiotics and then give him a call. If I'm still swollen, then we'llknow somehting's up.
Baby is healthy, but I didn't get the ultrasound date I was hoping for. It is a bit early yet. Maybe when I go back in three weeks???
Yesterday, I had deliveries to make in Hawley (where we used to live), and stopped in to see our neighbor's new baby. I had heard she had it last week, and was home again. The baby (a boy) is absolutely beautiful. It was nice to see a newborn again, but it won't be too much longer before I'm holding one of my own!
Jake wasn't that impressed with this baby, he just wanted to play with the dogs, and run around on their deck (in the rain).
Today, we're just taking it easy and staying HOME! Since the sun's out I'm going to try and finish taking photos of the house. Speaking of which, I need to get the dishes done . . .
