Jen B's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

May 8, 2001

It's been awhile since I talked about the lil' man (exclusively) in this diary, so I thought I'd do so now. He has adjusted so well to our new home, which really amazes me. I was all prepared for some sleepless nights, and clingy, whiny behaviour, but he's been great.

He does get into everything, though. The phones are still a major attraction, and in my room there's an painted ammo box (that holds old love letters) that sits next to my night table. He'll sit on that and "talk" on the phone, just like a lil' executive at his desk. I keep meaning to take a photo of that, but the camera's never around when I want it.

He also loves to play around the fireplace, a habit I'm going to have to break him of. He already knows how to open the doors, too. Right now we still have boxes around it, but they'll have to go eventually. Since it's a double-sided fireplace, I'd really like to avoid putting a gate around the darned thing.

On a good note, he's gotten to be quite the chatterbox, repeating almost everything we say. We were at a church picnic the other day, and he was sitting there saying, "eat, hot dog, eat, hot dog, sit . . " It was cute. He's also starting to make more animal noises now. He knows cows go moo, sheep go baa, and cars go zoom (I know it's not an animal, but he knows the sound).

And strangely enough, he's gotten attached to the comforter that goes with the crib bedding. I took the bumpers off long ago, and didn't use the comforter until just recently. I really only did that because it helps make sense of the paint job in his room. Silly, I know, but he's started dragging it around with him, and cuddles up to it. It's really cute, but it'll be too small to use when he gets his "big" bed. Guess I'll worry about that later. I'm just surprised he's formed an attachment to it now, when he never really had anything like that before. Well, he does have his Peaceful Planets bear that stays in his crib, and goes with him anywhere he spends the night. But he's never wanted it out of the bed.

He's still a great kid, and still a lovebug, too. He is so much fun to watch and play with. It makes me feel so bad on our "off" days, when I have a lot of stuff to do and can't pay as much attention to him. He tends to get into lots of trouble on those days, so all he hears is no, no, no. I try so hard not to yell, but that goes out the window after ahwile, too. That's when I start to notice he needs my attention, and end up dropping what I'm doing to be with him. Most times 5 minutes of playtime, a hug, or sitting with him on the couch awhile is all it takes. Now if only his daddy was that easy to deal with . . But that's a story for another day.
