Jen B's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

March 26, 2001

I had a busy and mostly childless weekend. Chris and I had been looking forward to the couple's movie night that Fr. Ed (our priest) "sponsored". It was his idea, and he paid for the movie tickets.   The idea was to give a bunch of the young couples from the parish a chance to get out for dinner and a movie, and the youth group would babysit.

Only one other couple (besides Fr. Ed, his wife, and us) came, and we were the only ones that needed a sitter. Fr. tried his best to find one for us, but I think he waited till the last minute. So we ended up calling Connie. I hate asking anyone to do last-minute favors, just because it puts them in a sticky situation. Once we get moved, I will start looking for a paid sitter so we can avoid these jams.

Anyway, since we were having unexpected company, I spent all day Sat. rushing around cleaning. I was feeling pretty industrious, and even packed up all the china. Now if only Chris will take it downstairs . . .

Jake went down for his nap a little before C came home, so we took one, too. Good thing we did, because we ended up not getting home 'till almost midnight.
We met the others at the theater, and saw Chocolat, which I thought was excellent. Even Chris liked it. Then we all went to a nearby restaurant for dinner. We were supposed to be discussing the movie, but ended up talking about everything else. Chris was too funny. For a guy who doesn't want to go to church or attend church functions, he was the life of the party.   I'm still shaking my head over that one.

Yesterday, Jake had that nasty cough & the sniffles, so I left him at home. Chris wasn't much better off, as he had a nasty headache. I got back from church, grabbed something to eat, and hung out for a couple hours before I left again for a baby shower. It was for the neighbors' daughter, who has been a part of the local gossip around here. She had a "once for old times' sake" with her ex-boyfriend on the family vacation to VA beach. She was so into this loser, it was pathetic. But he and his family have had nothing to do with the pregnancyy, and none of them were even invited to the shower. I would feel bad for Casey, but she has a very close-knit family who has been extremely supportive.
It was a big to-do, which is typical for Bev (Casey's mom), who always throws a nice party. They had it at one of the nicer local restaurants and the food was excellent. I knew most of the folks there, but ended up sitting with my firend Jen (who had the baby on Xmas Eve), and three of the few ladies I didn't know.

I came home to find Chris lying on the couch and Jake banging pots & pans together, happy as could be. I was so exhausted, I just crashed on the couch with Chris. Jake climbed up on us, and we all fell asleep. I woke up with Jake sprawled across me. Since it was 7:30, we decided to put him down for the night. The poor guy woke up soaking wet from a diaper that was so full it leaked. My fault, really, since I didn't change him before I snuck him into bed. Bad Mommy.

I stayed up to watch the Oscars, and could hear poor Jake coughing half the night. I had been giving him cough medicine since Sat. afternoon, so if he's not better by tomorrow, he's going to the Dr. No fever, no other symptoms, but I don't want this to drag on. Especially since I wanted to have our "Mommy & me" portrait done.

One good thing has come out of this cold bug Jake has. He's learning to blow his nose when I put a tissue up to him. He's such a big boy!

Jen & Jacob =)
