Jen B's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
March 14, 2001
The prodigal diary writer returns! It's been a crazy couple of weeks around here. Since a big snowstorm was predicted on the day of my OB appointment, we decided to tell everyone our news the day of Mom's party. It's a good thing we did, too, because we were snowed in that day and the next. We ended up with 14-16". It was nice to have Chris home for a few extra days. It gave him a chance to see our daily routine before I went on my trip.
The snow melted in time for Jacob's 18 month checkup. He weighed in at 24 lbs, and measured 32-1/2" tall. It was a good visit and the doctor said he's a really bright little boy (I already knew that). Then it was time for the shots. I thought he was only due for one, but he got four, and they did it in the arms. Poor kid saw 'em coming a mile away, and there was no distracting him. He was a cranky little cuss the rest of the day, but who could blame him? At least he's done with the shots for awhile.
That weekend was my reward. I went to Mommy Camp, a church-sponsored retreat for moms only. No kids and no husbands allowed. It was wonderful! I loved the chance to do whatever I felt up to, and get to know some of the other moms. Of course, we all swapped "war stories", which left me feeling especially lucky for having such a quick and easy delivery and a healthy baby.
Chris and Jacob had a pretty good weekend, from what I can tell. I made it way too easy on them, packing up a bag for Jake on Saturday, and leaving a list of reminders/hints for Chris. When I came home, Jake ran to daddy and climbed on his lap!! I tried to get a hug and kisses from the little guy (who's usually a lovebug), but he just climbed on Chris. He finally settled down when I sat on the couch beside them--stinker!
I had my much-anticipated OB appointment yesterday. For once, Jake didn't freak out when we went into the office or saw the doctor. I guess he finally realized she's my doctor, and not his. My tentative due date is 10/18/01, but based on her exam and my estimation of the conception date, she thinks I'll be a week or two later. I have an ultrasound on Thursday, along with the usual battery of bloodwork.
Reminder to self: make sure I have the stroller in MY car before the day before my next appointment. Chris had left it in his car, but I did not discover this until I was ready to leave today. So Jake ran around the room during my visit. It wasn't too bad, 'till the doc started the actual exam. Jake was trying to circle the exam table, and was holding onto her pants leg--she was half afraid he'd pull them down!
I'm really hoping Chris can make it to the ultrasound appointment with me. I do want him to see the baby, but I also want his help with Jake during the bloodwork. I'll have to go to the same hospital where they tortured him for that stupid lead screening, and I don't want him near that room again if I can help it.
Now to end on a positive note: Jacob has two new tricks up his sleeve. He's started jiggling doorknobs to get into a room, usually ours or the bathroom. And the other night, he was cuddled up on Chris's chest and started to fake snore! Cute, huh?
