Introduction
Well, the little monkey child is going through a stage. Oh, lordy. I love him to pieces, but the combination of a surge of independence and the inexorable advance of molars makes for a very grumpy child. I was really looking forward to this week I've had off, but honestly it has been more of a trial of patience than a vacation.I think he's also missing the other children he plays with in his daycare. He really loves all of them, and they him, and so when he's here with just us, he doesn't get the same kind of playful attention. Of course we pay attention to him, and play with him, but it's not the same kind that he has with other children, even though most of them are several years older. Well, someday he'll probably have a little brother or sister, and hopefully they will be able to play together.
The increase in independence has been pretty interesting, and that I don't mind so much. He's starting to want to do more on his own now, like feed himself (though has yet to master eating utensils), hold his own cup or bottle, and walk more on his own. The latter can be a bit problematic, as he doesn't understand about street safety yet. It's also difficult when he's in the stroller and wants to get out NOW! It's hard, because there's this balancing act between allowing him as much freedom as possible, while still leaving room for me to accomplish the various tasks that need to be done. It certainly doesn't get easier does it?
On the other hand, he's turning into such a little boy so quickly that I know there will be a time when I remember these times with a little more fondness. Certainly there are many more moments where he's a complete joy. Right now, he's out "helping" his dad rake up all the leaves that are finally starting to fall off the tree. Watching his unrestrained joy as he crunches through the dry piles of red and dun has got to be up there with some of life's treasured moments.
