Jen's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

December 20, 1999

Sorry I haven't posted an entry in so long -- it's been pretty crazy around here. Nothing bad, just phenomenally busy, and dealing with a nasty cold on top of it all.

There's good news about Jason's kidney -- we had an ultrasound of it done last week, and it looks like it's growing normally. It's still a little larger, and there's a little extra fluid, but that's to be expected. The doctor was really pleased by his progress, and we don't have to check on things for another year. Of course, trying to get a renal ultrasound done on a 2 1/2-year-old isn't too appealing, but I'm sure we'll manage.

Another milestone was passed--Jason got his first hair cut last Friday, and he's not a baby anymore. In the morning, he still had his golden curls, but by the afternoon, he was all little boy. It's amazing what a difference it makes. It's really cute, and I do like it quite a bit, it's just such an adjustment. I think it's more obvious now how fast he's growing, more and more words are being added to his vocabulary, he's able to navigate more complex obstacles, and the person that he is shows through so strongly that I keep getting glimpses of the child he will be.

The contrast between his infancy and his childhood has also been heightened by the arrival of his new cousin a couple of weeks ago. Holding a tiny, 7 pound, newborn girl child was so odd and wonderful at the same time. Jason was about half a pound smaller at birth, and here he is now, about 4 times heavier, and doing so many things. At the same time, he's still my little one, the precious child I love with all my heart. Motherhood is such a strange mixture of memories and anticipation.
