Good heavens, Jason is certainly testing his boundaries! Man, he is becoming a little defiant boy. It's not mean-spirited, which is how I can manage to keep some semblance of sanity, and I can tell that he's just seeing what he can get away with. It does get hard though, and sometimes I wonder what the best approach is. I have a feeling it's probably too much to expect that he'll do what I want him to the first time I ask. So, right now, I'm just trying to find good ways to balance his independence with what I need in terms of obedience. This parenting stuff sure isn't easy!
On the plus side, he has had some incredibly sweet moments. The other night he was playing with a wooden train set, that has these figures that I suppose are meant to represent people. He was playing with one, and then picked it up and was rocking it in the crook of his arm, singing, "Rock a baby," over and over again (I think it was supposed to be "Rock a Bye Baby," but it was close enough!). I asked him if it was his baby, and he said "yes," and continued to talk to it in this high sweet voice. At one point, he paused, picked up another figure, and handed it to me and said, "Mama's baby!" and insisted that I sing and rock it. He then put both "babies" in my arms, and when asked, told me that they were twins. This is the part about being a mom that I love!
Jason's really developing a fascination and love of trains. He gets very excited when he see pictures of them, or when they are on TV. One of his favorite games is one we call "Tickle Train," where the trains (my fingers) go "Chuga chuga chuga" as they go up his arms and "Choo choo!" as they tickle his shoulders. Last Saturday, we took him to the Roaring Camp Railroad, and he got to go on an old fashioned Steam Engine ride. He really had a lot of fun, though was a little startled by how loud the engine's whistle was at first. LOL, halfway through the trip (it was about an hour long) we got off and wandered around a very old redwood grove, and he got to meet another little boy, about four months older, who was also named Jason. It was pretty funny, but the other little boy was choosing to ignore the calls of his parents, so there were four people running around shouting, "Jason!" Not that it made a difference to either boy!
