Jen's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

November 8, 1999

Whoops, it looks like I forgot to write something for last week -- bad writer, bad, bad! Well, it was a pretty slow week, and things were pretty much the status quo.

Comet Halloween was fun -- we had the poor taste to dress up as Heaven's Gate cultists and dressed Jason up as the Hale-Bopp comet. What can I say? I hadn't come up with anything until Thursday afternoon, and I knew I could knock this one out in less than two hours.

One really sweet thing that is happening is that Jason has entered the world of make believe, and it surprises me -- I didn't think that it would start this early. The other day, he was sitting on the floor with some plastic play pots and pans, and had one of my wooden spoons. He kind of plays with the spoon for a little while and then picks up a pot and starts stirring. It cracked me up. Then when I asked "Jason, can I have a bit?" he put the spoon to my mouth without further prompting. I was so shocked! Now it's one of his favorite games and he will go give his daddy "bites" or take one himself if asked.

He's slowly starting to add a few more words. Since the addition of string cheese to his diet (which he now adores) he has started saying "cheese" (well, it really comes out more like "chzzz") whenever I have some.

I've started this low-carb diet, which is working great, and I'm finding that I really have to watch and be sure that I make sure that Jason is not on the same one. Right now, I'm on the really low-carb end, and sometimes I just have to make a separate side dish just for him. It can be tough getting him to eat it though -- he's not a huge veggie fan and I just hope he's getting enough of a balance from the fruit and bread/cereal items I give him. Anybody have any suggestions for easy, nutritious and yummy non-protein edibles that he'll actually like?

Jen
