Jen's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

October 18, 2000

Wow, Jason was an absolute angel last night. I couldn't believe it, but he did everything that he was asked, snuggled with me and read books, played with his toys or watched his movie. It was just a really nice evening with him. Mondays and Tuesdays are often tough on me right now because Steve is in class, and I'm getting less and less mobile as my girth expands. Hopefully, I only have another six weeks or so until the baby's here and then it's on to a new set of challenges!

Jason got to come to my doctor's appointment with me yesterday, and I let him know that we'd get to hear the baby's heartbeat. So for the rest of our wait, he'd keep saying, "Hear baby heart beep? Hear baby heart beep?" and then imitate the swoosh, swoosh sound the doppler makes. It was really nice to find even a small way to get him involved.

I really miss talking walks and generally horsing around with him. He's so much fun, and so much easier to deal with when I'm able to interact more with him. I don't know how much different it would be if he was older, and able to understand my limitations, but I don't imagine that it would be too different. I know that when I was a kid, my mom had serious back problems for about a year, and though I understood in theory, it was still frustrating that my mom couldn't do all the things that "everyone" else's mom could. At least I'm just dealing with Jason's straightforward frustration, and not conflicting layers of emotion.
