Jen's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

September 29, 1999

Two years ago, Jason was just a small clump of cells floating toward the location that would be his home for the next nine months. It fills me with awe to realize that from that initial union of genetic material, there is a vibrant human being on the earth who is my son. Wow.

On a more mundane note, Jason had his 15 month appointment (well, closer to 15 3/4) today. He's finally climbing up the growth curves and at 31 1/2 inches tall, he's in the 40% for height, and at 22 pounds, 14 ounces -- the 27% for weight. This is up from the 15% and 10% respectively. My husband and I are not small people, but apparently I did the same thing as a baby, so it fits what I was expecting.

He did really well with his shots, got mad with the first, started crying at the second, and shrieked at the third. But as soon as it was done and I picked him up, he stopped. He's really good with that kind of thing; a few months ago he needed some minor blood-work done, and he didn't cry at all during the draw.

He babbles constantly, but only has a couple of words, "Daddy" still being the only one he uses regularly and in context. He does sign "please" when he wants something, and he understands so much it blows me away. If he's being fed and I ask if he wants more, he'll sign "please" if he does, and shakes his head "no" if not. I was reading to him the other day (which he totally loves), and he kept handing me the same book, so I said, "I've read that one already, why don't you get another book?" and he did.

He's still got a full head of curly blond hair, which I'm not going to cut anytime soon -- it's too cherub-like right now, and there will be plenty of hair-cuts in the future.

A really fun thing that he does is "scaring" us. Steve or I will hold him in a doorway, and when the other person walks by (pretending not to notice) jump and say "boo!" Jason also likes it when we startle him. Either way is almost guaranteed to produce fits of giggles. Hmmmmmm, I think I may have a future X-sportsman on my hands.
