My little boy is getting so independent! He wants to do so many things by himself, but unfortunately, he either doesn't yet have the coordination or it's just not safe, and then he'll get frustrated and mad. There's no question about things where safety is concerned, and that I will not budge on. But when it comes to things that he's not very skilled at, like cutting up fruit with a very safe knife, I figure there's no harm in letting him work it out. How else will he learn and improve? Sometimes, I admit, it would just be easier and faster if I just did things for him, but that seems wrong somehow, and doesn't help him develop.
This week has been hard on him. We're moving on Saturday. Our house closed on Monday -- hooray! And everything is in boxes and disarray. He loves the new place, probably because there is so much room to run around, but we're not there yet. Soon, we'll be unpacked and this will all be behind us. Just in time for the next life disruption.
And speaking of the little bundle of joy, it looks like Jason is going to have a little sister named Aerin Rose! We found out last Friday and are just overjoyed. There's still a 10 to 15 percent chance that it could be a boy, and if so, that's fine, but it's fun to imagine one of each. Jason has gotten very sweet about the baby. He kisses and hugs my belly and says "Hi Aerin!" all the time. He used to say, "hi baby," but when we told him what her name would be he switched.
I'm really trying to focus on the positive aspects of this baby for Jason. I tell him that when she's born, she'll be very tiny, but will love us all very much, and when she gets bigger, they can play all the time. Many of my friends on my June 1998 list have since had another baby, and I'm trying to learn from their experiences. I imagine that the first month or so will be pretty tough, but I'll do the best I can!
