Jen's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

September 13, 1999

A bunch of little things this week:

Steve got back from his trip safe and sound, and the whole experience was far less traumatic than I was afraid of. I really did enjoy being alone with Jason; there was something special about getting that one-on-one time. The house became a wreck, and I never did end up getting groceries, but that was okay; at least the cat got fed.

***

I am Daddy. Sigh, I carried Jason for nine months, delivered him without pain meds, had him glomming onto my breasts for over a year now, and I'm Daddy. Steve will walk into the room, Jason's face will light up, and he'll say, "Daddy!" I'll walk into a room, same thing happens. Steve and I will say "Jason, can you say Mommy?" He'll look back at us, smile and say "Daddy!" I was on the phone with Steve, and he put the phone by Jason's ear and said, "Say 'hi' to Mommy." Getting the picture? Yup, he said "Daddy!" It's pretty amusing really, and I'm beginning to think he's being silly. Certainly he can say "Mommy," or "Mama," and he's done so on many occasions -- it's just getting him to say it to me. Oh, well.

* * *

Jason has started reading to himself, and it's so sweet. He'll sit on the floor, open up one of his books (in a variety of orientations) and start up, in his toddler babble. I'm really happy that he seems to enjoy books, and certainly he loves it when we read to him. It's really helped us begin the winding down process at the end of the day, and gets him ready for bed.

* * *

It looks like Jason is finally getting used to the teething process. Two more teeth finally made their way through and the crying and grumpiness was pretty minimal this time around. We'll see how he does when he starts getting molars, though!
