Jen's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

September 7, 1999

Well, I bought Jason his first pair of "real" shoes. I wanted to give him as much shoe-free time as possible, but he's walking so much now, and all over the place, that I thought it was time. This way, I can let him walk with me, even if the floor isn't a place where I'd let him crawl.

So, we went to the shoe store, and did the whole routine of figuring out his size, trying on a couple of pairs, checking where his toes were, etc. I ended up getting the ones that were a little big on him -- he walked well in them, though a little unsure at first. I'll definitely have to tie them tight because he tries to kick them off given the chance. Other than that, he's fine with them. I ended up getting the Stride-Rite, Walk-to-Learn kind, in a nice brown color. I figured if I bought something neutral, that I could use it for another child and not have to worry about gender issues.

On a different note, I'm on my own with the boy-child for a couple of days -- Steve's out of town training for his new job. This will be the first time since Jason's been born that it'll just be the two of us for more than a day, and I'm facing the coming days with a mixture of anticipation and terror. The anticipation comes from getting the opportunity to have some really good one-on-one time, the dread from having all the work to myself. Well, not all by my self, really -- he is in daycare while I work. Anyway, I really have to hand it to the single parents of the world. You do an amazing job on your own, and since you don't get a break, the work seems more than doubled. Well, by the time you actually get to read this, Steve will be home, my house will no doubt be a wreck, and I still won't have made it out to the grocery store. :)
