Hooray -- I have my sweetie back! The little gremlin that has possessed my child has gone back to whatever nefarious realm it came from. I guess I was wrong about the whole teething thing (so much for mommy instincts), because I ended up with the cold that he had. Not fun. However, Jason has been really happy and affectionate, so that kind of made up for things.
He has been cracking me up at mealtimes. I mentioned a few months ago that he was getting really into using a fork and feeding himself, but he kind of lost interest-I think because his coordination wasn't so great and he never really got much. Anyway, he's at the point now where if we want him to eat anything, we give him the fork and let him go at it-he won't eat very much otherwise. He's much better at it now, and so he doesn't have the frustration factor that was there before. I think he also enjoys the independence of it. But what's funny is that he'll take a bite of food and say "Mmmmm, good!" with each bite.
He's really making another leap with talking, and starting to add more and more words, make greater efforts to imitate us, and has a few simple sentences. He still tends to garble words he's used to when he's stringing them together, even if he can say the individual words. A classic example is that he can say "I," "want" and "honey," but if we ask him to say, "I want honey!" it comes out, "ha ha HONEY!" I wonder why that is? I wonder if we do that to some degree as well, slur words together, and he's just exaggerating that.
I remember my friend's daughter making a big leap in talking from where Jason is now, to full sentences in a really short time, so I wonder where Jason will be at in six months? I'm looking forward to it-even the limited conversations we have now are a blast.
