Jen's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

June 12, 2000

06/12/00

Jason is now two! I just realized that today was his original due date -- it ended up getting moved to the 21st, and he didn't care and ended up showing up the ninth, so there you have it. It does explain the feeling that there's something I should be remembering though!

We had a great party yesterday. It was outside at a park, so all the kids got to run around and I didn't have to worry about my carpets (not that I do, they're a mess). Jason had fun opening presents and eating cake, but the most fun was playing with the bubbles. I bought about 11 bottles of bubble stuff (I had meant to make it myself, but time got away), and several bubble toys. There were two kids Jason's age, and two older ones, and I think they all had a blast seeing who could make the largest or the most bubbles.

Aside from birthday type activities, I've decided that Jason is becoming danger-boy. In the past week he has 1) got a hold of his dad's razor and put it in his mouth -- thank god the blade side was up against his teeth, so he didn't get cut. 2) Found a piece of gum -- my clue in was the suspiciously "minty" smell my child suddenly acquired, only then did I notice it in my carpet, his sleeper and then my overalls. 3) Run out into the street. 4) Fell down and split his lip. 5) Pulling the ironing board on top of himself (luckily it was just folded up against the wall, and not in use!). And 6) Climbed into his stroller, stood up, leaned against the back and tipped it over, splitting the other side of his lip.

It's amazing to me, we've always been very careful to keep an eye on him, but I think that it's just that he getting more coordinated and a lot faster than we're used to. What the week has told us is that we really need to step up our awareness of what he's capable. I think this is a dangerous time for him in that he's got the ability to get into trouble, but not enough awareness to realize that he could get hurt. I guess that's what parents are for!
