Jen's Diary Entries

I have to say that the last week has been really good, and a lot of it has to do with how happy Jason's been lately. He's just been in such a good mood, that he's just been a joy to be around.

He's starting to sing -- I didn't realize it at first, but he was holding a Winnie the Pooh doll and kind of babbling to it. Then I realized that his babbling had a cadence to it, and intonation, and, what do you know, it was pretty darn close to the Winnie the Pooh song. The only actual word that is discernable is "Pooh," but he's got the idea.

Last night was a full-on tickle-fest. He would flop on the bed, then get up, we'd push him slightly, and he'd do this melodramatic drop, and giggle hysterically while we tickled him. It was just so much fun -- it was one of those moments that sustain you for a long time.

Later, we were looking through "A Child is Born," by Lennart Nielsen, and he pointed to a picture of a 5-week embryo and said "baby!" He loved looking at all the pictures in that book, and "baby" seems to be his favorite word lately. I suppose he might be hearing it from us, but we don't talk about his future sibling all that much. I wonder if it's just that he's starting to realize that there are kids younger than he is, and that fascinates him. I seem to remember my friend's toddler being fascinated by little ones when she was his age.

He's still growing, and eating a ton. It amazes me how much that boy can put away. I think he just has a metabolism that's going full speed ahead, though his legs are getting longer. We've started measuring him against the wall, and he's about 33." I don't know why, but he seemed to enjoy the measuring process, and was far more cooperative than I expected. He even stayed at the wall while I got up to get my measuring tape.

The one thing that I still feel like I'm battling with is that he's hitting. We're trying to be consistent with how we react when he does it, and it does seem to help for a day or so, but then he starts up again. It does seems to be related to him being tired or hungry, so I'm trying to take that into account, but sometimes he's just being overly enthusiastic about his play. Any suggestions?
