Introduction
Hi Everyone!
Well, Christmas is over and I can almost breath a sigh of relief as the busy season for me winds down. My husband's birthday is January 8th, so I have one more event before I can really adjust back to my regular schedule. Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas and the holidays leading up to them, but it is a lot of work and as much as I enjoy them, when they are over I feel like I can finally relax again.
This was the best Christmas so far, for Josh. He is old enough now, to understand the concept of Santa Claus. He was able to help pick out and decorate the Christmas tree. We make an event of going out to the Christmas tree lot, picking out a tree and bringing it home. When we got the tree home this year, we were having some trouble getting it to stand up straight, so my husband had a wrench and was lying down under the tree trying to adjust the stand. Josh saw his Daddy doing this and he wanted to help, so he ran to his tool box and pulled out his yellow plastic wrench. He laid down on the other side of the tree and started mimicing his Dad. It was so cute, I wish I would have gotten the whole scene on video.
We did have a funny incident with the angel. It wasn't until after Josh went to bed one night last week that we found the box with the Angel tree topper, so we put it up while Josh was sleeping. When he woke up the next morning, he saw the angel and asked John how it got there. John told him that it landed there while he was sleeping. After that Josh was afraid of the angel, because he thought it was alive. One afternoon I walked up stairs to change and Josh started screaming! I ran down stairs and asked him what was wrong and he told me that he was afraid of the angel. I had to take the angel down and show him that it wasn't alive. I lifted her skirt and showed him the card board. I let him touch it and hold it. Finally he accepted that it was just a decoration and the crisis was over.
This year John's family was here from Florida. They celebrate on Christmas Eve and open gifts at midnight. My family celebrates Christmas day and opens gifts in the morning. This is good, because that way we can honor both traditions and spend time with both families. It does, however, make for a very busy couple of days!
John's family was staying with some friends in Chino Hills, which is where the Christmas Eve party was being held. Both John and I had to work on the 24th, but I did get off at 2:00 pm. I picked up Josh from Daycare and we headed down to John's office to pick him up at 2:30. Traffic was horrible! it took me an hour and 15 minutes just to get to John's office (usually a 45 minute drive). I really thought if we left as early as we did we would miss the major traffic, but I was wrong. We did stop for dinner to break up the drive for Josh and because John's family doesn't eat until after the gifts are opened at about 1:00 am. Travel time alone, it took us over 4 hours to get to the party! It was a great party and worth the trip, but a tough car trip none the less! Josh had so much fun dancing and playing with the other children (or more accurately, playing with the other children's toys!). I put him in his pajamas and got him ready for bed at 10:00 and he fell asleep at about 10:30. We enjoyed the party until aout 1:00 am and then decided we better hit the road if we were going to get home, sleep and make it to my parent's house by 10:00 am. Josh slept in until 8:30 the next morning (he has never slept that late!), and we sure appreciated it. When he woke up we discovered that Santa had visited the house! The stockings were full and gifts were waiting by the fireplace. Josh had a great time opening the gifts. He got some trucks and tractors, a doctor's set and a stuffed Simba (from the Lion King). It was hard for us to tear Josh away from his Santa gifts, but we assured him there was more to come at Granny and Pappa's house.
Josh had a blast at my parent's house! My nephews were there from Hawaii and Josh adores them! The 3 boys were running around the house and playing with each other all day! When it was time to go (9:00 pm), Josh cried and cried. He wanted to stay with Cousin Sean and cousin Kevin. It was very sweet, but I knew that he was over tired and needed to sleep. We thought he would fall asleep on the ride home, but not a chance. Josh was wide awake the whole trip home and when we got there he was happy to resume play with his Santa toys! After a bath and a story it was 10:15 and way past Josh's bedtime! He wanted to take all of his trucks, his doctor kit and Simba to bed with him. I limited it to one only, and he chose Simba. He must have been exhausted because he fell asleep right away with his arms around this huge stuffed animal!
Today he is home with my husband (I have to work). They will meet up with my in laws this afternoon and Josh will have another round of gifts to open. We didn't wake him at midnight on Christmas eve, so he hasn't opened the gifts from my in laws yet. They went all out this year as they always do. I don't know exactly what he got, but there were about 8 boxes from them ranging from small to huge so I imagine he got lots of fun stuff!
Now I need to go through Josh's toys and get rid of some that he doesn't play with. We just don't have the room for all the toys he has not to mention the new ones!
As busy as it was, it was a great Christmas for all of us!
As for TTC, AF showed up on Christmas eve! What a bummer of a Christmas gift that was! Oh well, I must say I wasn't too confident this cycle because John was out of town for my peak days and because we have been trying for so long. After a while I start to wonder why this cycle would be any different than the last 13 cycles? Oh well, one more cycle and then I have my visit to the fertility specialist. I am definitely ready to talk to him. I have so many questions about what my next step is.
That's all for this week.
Thanks for reading!
