Hi Everyone!
Sorry it has been almost 2 weeks since I last updated, but I have been busy, as usual!
When mid January hits every year, I breath a sigh of relief. Then I know I can take a rest. End of October, November, December and the first couple of weeks of January keep me really busy! It starts off with Halloween. We have a big celebration at work for Halloween. We all dress up in theme and decorate our department accordingly. On top of the work invloved with that, I have to make sure Josh gets a costume and we carve a pumpkin of our own at home. They have a costume parade at his daycare, which I haven't missed yet. Then comes Thanksgiving. Again we have a big celebration at my office. This year I am cooking a Turkey for my staff and we are having a big pot luck. Josh's daycare has a Harvest Luncheon for the staff and I volunteer each year to work in his classroom while the teachers enjoy their lunch. I also head up a fund raiser for his day care that begins in mid November and ends mid December. Then comes Christmas, need I say more! I am not one of those organized people who spreads the shopping out throughout the year (I wish I was). I am always shopping on my lunch hour all through December. Then comes New Years Eve/Day and January 8th is my husband's birthday.
I haven't really discussed this before, but it seems like a good time to do it. Being a working Mom is very rewarding, but can really be hard to juggle everything at times. I completely respect and admire stay at home Moms and I hope to join those ranks some day, but for now my husband and I have decided that I will continue working. John has only been on his job for 4 months and is not feeling completely secure about it yet. I am lucky because I love my job! They are very flexible with me and I am able to work my schedule around the needs of Josh ie: doctors appointments, school functions, sick days, etc. Also, having his daycare(school) on site makes things very convenient.
Sometimes I wonder what I did with all the free time I had before I was a Mom. I have learned a lot about multi-tasking, prioritizing tasks and spending quality time with my family. It is amazing how much more efficient I am at work now that I know I have to be out of here by 5:00 to go pick up Josh. When you know staying late is not an option, you find a way to get the job done on time!
This time of year, when there is so much more going on than usual, it is hard not to burn out. I want to enjoy the Holidays instead of running through them until I am near colapse. And for all you ladies out there with more than one, how do you do it?
Oh well, enough about me. On to news about Josh........
My son has a black eye! On Friday, his teacher called me from daycare and said that he had fallen in the sand box and hit his check on a toy. I was assured that he was fine, but that they wanted me to know about it right away. Of course, I went straight over there to check for my self. Sure enough he was fine and was playing as if nothing had happened, but we could see the bruising beginning even then. I decided to take him home early. There was no bleeding, just a bruise but by morning it was a full blown black eye. I am so thankful that the toy did not hit his eye directly. It sure could have been a whole lot worse. Still, it is really hard to see your toddler hurting. I always wish I could take the pain/wound away from him and absorb it myself.
Josh's newest interest is ants. We have had a mild ant problem at our house these past couple of weeks. It is unusual with the rainy weather, but the ants seem to enjoy coming around for any crumb of food and water too. Josh watches them, says "ant" and puts his finger out for the ant to crawl on. This is not my favorite game, because I hate ants and I don't like to see them crawling on my son's finger, but he loves it. It could be worse, he could be facinated with snakes or lizards or something! I guess I can look forward to that in a few years!
Well, that's all for now.
Thanks for reading!
Janet and Josh
