Janet's Diary Entries

Hi Everyone!

We were hit with some big news yesterday. The onsite childcare facility we have at my office is closing down! I am still in shock as I was just informed yesterday at 5:00 pm when I went to pick Josh up. It was a company decision and financially it makes sense, but I am devistated. There are 100 children enrolled in this daycare/school. They take children from infants to Kindergarten. I always thought Josh would continue here until Kindergarten and when (and if) we have other children they would attend this daycare as well. I have always counted myself lucky for having this benefit as Josh has been so close I was able to breastfeed him until he was 13 months old. Plus I can be there at the drop of a hat for school functions or emergencies. In addition to the convenience, this daycare center is, by far, the best I have seen in the area. Each room has a yard for kids of that age to play together and the activities and ciriculum are outstanding. The kids are served a hot lunch every day and the meals are, for the most part, healthy and nutritious. I also liked the fact that I could participate in some of the center decision making as they offer a PTA program for all parents to join.

I feel like I am never going to find a comparable center for Josh and am now battling with my decision to be a working Mom. Josh is my number one priority and I have always felt comfortable working because Josh was in such an excellent facility, I was close by and my financial contribution to our household enables us to live in a better neighborhood.

I had a year to research and interview daycare centers when I was PG with Josh (I stayed home until Josh was 3 1/2 months old), now I have 2 months to decide what I will do going forward. I feel pressure to hurry and get him on the waiting list somewhere, but at the same time I refuse to lower my standards because timing is an issue. I have already started calling around and have an interview set up with a center that is close by and has a similar ciriculum to what Josh has now. I am not sure what to expect, but I am hoping I will be happy with what I find on my visit. Ugh!

On to different subjects.....

The other day, I took Josh to the doctor to check for a possible ear infection. He had been a little out of sorts and had complained that his ear hurt so off we went to see the doctor. When the doctor was looking at Josh's ear she said that the right ear looked fine, but that she couldn't even see into the left ear because there was so much wax! I was embarassed by this because I felt like I should have been doing a better job to keep his ears clean, but she assured me that there was nothing I could do because it was inside the ear canal and they don't recommend putting anything inside the ear at all. Anyway, after taking three spoonfuls (very tiny spoon) of wax out of his ear, she was able to see that he did have a minor infection. On our way out of the doctors office there is a pharmacy where they sell homemade cookies. They are huge and delicious. It only took one to get Josh hooked on these treats and now he wants one everytime we go to the doctor. He actually seems to enjoy his doctor visits so much because he has learned that we usually get a cookie on the way out. They have three different types of cookie: Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter and Oatmeal Raisin. Josh has had the Chocolate Chip and the Peanut Butter before, but this time he wanted the Oatmeal Raisin. I tried to talk him out of it because I was afraid he wouldn't like it as much as the other two flavors, but he insisted on the Oatmeal so Oatmeal it was. As we walked to the car he was clearly enjoying this treat and I had to make a note to myself that he really likes Oatmeal Raisin cookies! I loaded him up in the car and we drove back to his daycare. I kept peaking at him in the rear view miror and he was still chompin away on that cookie. It wasn't until I went to get him out of his car seat that I realized, while my Son loves Oatmeal cookies, he doesn't care for the Raisins! There were slobber covered raisins all over the back seat of my car! I don't know how I didn't notice him spitting them out while I was driving. I had to laugh because there were a lot of them and they were stuck to the back of the front seat, stuck on the back seat and there were several in his lap. There are few things Josh doesn't like, but we can safely add raisins to the list!

Something else I wanted to mention is that twice last week, Josh got out of his bed in the early morning, crawled under his crib and went back to sleep. The first time, it scared me because I went to get him up in the morning and he wasn't in his bed! I started looking around for him and heard him giggling under the crib. That little stinker was hiding! The next morning was the same only he woke up crying (I heard him on the monitor) and hwen I went in his room he was under the crib. I think he woke up under there and got scared because he didn't know where he was. I check on Josh once when I go to bed at 10:00 pm and usually one more time in the night, just to make sure he is not too cold. Both times he was in bed when I checked and under the crib in the morning. He hasn't done it since last week, so I guess we will have to wait and see if it was just a fluke.

As for TTC, today is day 19 and I really have nothing to report. It should be a short cycle this time around because it looks like I ovulated on day 12 or 13. I am in the midst of the 2 week wait now, so we will have to wait and see.

That's all for this week, Thanks for reading!
