Hi Everyone!

Sorry it has been almost 3 weeks since my last update. I have been so busy, but I have lots of news about Josh.

He's walking! He took his first steps 2 weeks ago and has pretty much given up crawling. I must say, I expected the transition to go a bit slower, but I guess he was getting him self good and ready. He looks a little like a drunken sailer when he toddles accross the floor, but he can walk all the way accross the room without falling! I have been surprised at how much more careful we have to be now. I always thought our house was baby proofed before, but now there are more things to watch out for. We have a glass table in our living room and in the past he would pull himself up on it, but now when he walks near it I am afraid he will fall and hit his head on the glass. I remember other Mothers telling me that when he started walking he would require more attention, but I never really believed it until now. Even though it will require a little more work on my part, I must say I am thrilled! It is great to see him making progress developmentally, plus he is so proud of himself. He will walk accross the room and smile and clap when he is done!

Josh also got his first haircut last week! I really have to hand it to the woman that cut his hair, as she was dealing with a moving target. We went to a place called "Penny Lane". They had video screens at each station and plenty of toys for kids to play with. Josh enjoyed looking at himself in the mirror the most, I think. He was entertained for part of the haircut, but lost interest after a while and wanted to get down out of the chair. I ended up sitting in the chair myself and putting Josh on my lap for the last few snips. He enjoyed the buzz cutters that they used on the back of his neck. I thought the sound might scare him, but he held perfectly still and listened. I think it tickled his neck a little. Anyway, when we were done with the haircut, we went for ice cream and I would say, Josh had fun with both events.

I am sad to say, that I forgot my camera for the haircut. I had a disposable camera in my car and I figured I would use that. The little window had a 1 in it so I thought we had only used up 1 picture and had almost an entire roll of film left (you may know where this is heading). They got him all ready for his hair cut, dressed in a smock and I snapped a picture. She started cutting and that is when I realized that it wasn't 1 picture taken, it was 1 picture remaining! So, I only got one picture! It's a bummer, but at least I got one. I still have to get the film developed and scan it before I can post the picture, so it may be a while.

Well, last Thursday, was my fourth wedding anniversary. John and I planned an overnight trip to Santa Barbara and we asked my parents to take Josh overnight. This was a big step for me. It was the first time since he was conceived that I have spent the night away from him. My husband has been away some nights for business trips and such, but this was a first for me. I know that my parents are good with children, in fact, we leave Josh with them for a few hours every Sunday evening while John and I go to the movies. They raised four children without any major incidents and my Mom is a registered nurse. You would think we would have a care free evening without Josh, wouldn't you? I must say, we did worry but the trip was great! We called once and, of course, everything was fine. As much as I loved spending the alone time with my husband, the smile on Josh's face when we picked him up just made my weekend! I love him so much!

Well, that's all for now. Thanks for reading!

Janet
