Janet's Diary Entries

Hi Everyone!

Sorry last weeks entry was such a bummer. My spirits are much higher now and thanks to everyone who checked in with me on my "talk to me" board. The encouraging words really helped put me in a better frame of mind.

About a month ago Josh had his first dentist appointmet. I just realized that with all the excitement of our trip to Nicaragua I haven't written about it at all. My dentist had told me that children should see the dentist for the first time when they are 2 years old. One of the other Mothers at Josh's daycare had just taken her son to a local pediatric dentist and she told me that they had a really good experience, so I got the dental office's name and number and set up an appointment. In anticipation of the big day, I talked to Josh about the dentist. We practiced opening our mouths for the dentist to see inside. I have a few silver filings in my mouth, so as Josh looked inside my opened mouth he said "Mommy has black teeth!" Out of the mouthes of babes.... Anyway, the day came for our appointment and we arrived to the dentist's waiting room to find lots of fun toys. Josh had a great time playing with the toys while I filled out the new patient paperwork. Once we were done, they had Josh and I watch a movie about teeth. It was pretty cute, and had a chimpanzee brushing and flossing her teeth. So far, this was a great adventure but then the dentist arrived. Josh started crying as soon as he saw her. He held on to me for dear life and I still can't figure out what scared him so much. We decided that it would be best to wait for Josh's first cleaning because we didn't want to make this a traumatic experience for him. She did take a look at his teeth and said we were doing a good job brushing and his teeth looked great! We talked a little about juice. She said it is best to give children juice with food, so that the sugar from the juice doesn't linger on the teeth for long periods of time. She also told us that if I was going to give Josh a sweet treat, to avoid sticky things like caramel or chewy candies because if they stick to the teeth, they are more likely to cause cavities. We scheduled our next appointment for December, but this will be just time for Josh to come into the office and play. They don't charge for this visit and it is meant to help Josh gain his comfort level when coming to the dentist. He won't have his first cleaning until he is 3. I really liked the dentist and the office staff. It was great to go to a dentist that specializes in working with children and when Josh got to pick a toy out of the chest he decided he liked the dentist too!

Another milestone we have passed is crib sleeping. Josh now sleeps in a toddler bed. I was hesitant to move him to a toddler bed so young, but he keeps trying to climb out of his crib and I was afraid he would just land head first on the floor. We changed the decor of his room from Winnie the Pooh to sports. We got bedding, a pillow and a rug with basket balls, footballs, baseballs and hockey sticks printed on them. We ripped down the Winnie the Pooh liner and put up a sports liner around the mid section of the walls. It really looks like a little boy room now and not a baby nursury.

Josh has been sleeping in the toddler bed now for 2 nights and has done great! He is really proud of himself and he loves to climb into bed on his own. I expected him to wake up in the mornings and play in his room, but he still calls to me from his bed and I come get him. He did get out of bed last night, shortly after I put him down, but once I put him back to bed he stayed in bed for the night. I know he knows he can get out of bed on his own, so I find it funny that he waits in his bed in the morning for me to come get him.

We have been going to the beach on Saturdays for the last few weeks. Josh loves it and so do John and I! We have met some new people and Josh loves to play in the sand and chase the seagulls. The water has been pretty cold, but we splash around in the waves and the sun keeps us nice and warm. Josh gets a little scared of the waves as they crash pretty close to the shore, but he is getting used to it and he loves to build sand castles in the wet sand just far enough away that the water only occasionally hits us. We are going to try to make this a once a week outing for as long as the weather stays warm.

As for me, today is day 11, cycle 11 TTC. This is my second cycle on clomid and I am feeling pretty good. These first 11 days have really gone by fast and I am trying to relax aboout the whole process a little more. I can't say I'm not counting days, but I am enjoying the days as I count them and hoping that relaxing will ultimately help me reach my goal.

That's all for this week.

Thanks for reading!
