Janet's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

August 5, 2003

Hi Everyone!

Once again it has been almost 2 weeks since my last entry, I just can't seem to find the time. But, here I am for a quick entry. I have about 10 minutes before I am off to pick Josh up from daycare.

We are gearing up for our upcoming trip to Nicaragua! DH was born in Nicaragua and lived there until he was 9 years old. It has always been home to him, so he is very excited about going back. It will be a first visit for Josh and me and I am looking forward to seeing where John grew up and meeting much of his extended family for the first time. We will be staying for a week and will be celebrating the 60th wedding anniversary of John's Grandparents. John's Mother comes from a large family and from what I understand everyone is coming back for this celebration.

We got a passport for Josh (and I got mine renewed) and have made all the typical vacation preparations, but didn't think to call the doctor for any additional vacinations. We called yesterday because Josh had a cough and we wanted to make sure everything was fine before we put him on an airplane for 6 hours and took him to a third world country. I am happy to say that he is fine, but we found out today that he should have additional immunizations for the trip. We were given pills for Malaria and he was given his second MMR shot (Measles, Mumpes and Rubella). He has already had his Hepititus shots so the only one we were not able to get was Typhoid. If we gave him the shot today it would not be affective for about 2 weeks and we will be home by then, so there really was no need to have it done. That worried me a lot at first and we even considered cancelling the trip, but the doctor told us if we take reasonable precautions we should be fine and if he does happen to come down with typhoid it is treatable with liquids and antibiotics. Still to be on the safe side I have decided to pack all of Josh's food and water. I may change my mind about that once I am there, but I would rather have it with me just in case.

I am also trying to come up with ideas on how to keep Josh entertained for 6 hours on an airplane. We intentionally scheduled our flight so we would have a lay over in Texas. That will give Josh some time to stretch his legs and run around a bit. I am just afraid he won't want to get back on the plane after that. Oh well, wish me luck and if you have any tips post my board!

I also wanted to mention in this entry that I have noticed some recent changes to the diaries. Several writers have been transferred to different sites at long last. I realize this is due, in part to Anne's post last week and the amazing response she got from other writers. Personally, I am happy at Toddlers today, for now, and have not requested that my diary be moved. My gripe involves Josh's picture on the diary main page. I have sent in a picture of Josh to the editor on 5 different occasions, starting back in October 2002. I completely understand that the iParenting staff is busy, but how long does it take to post a picture? I am one of a handful of writers who regularly posts updates and I am very frusterated that I can't get a single picture posted in 10 months! I see a lot of "picture unavailable" notations on these sites and wonder if other writers are having the same problem. It is also a frusteration to me to see new diaries added to the site with a picture included. If there is time to post other picture, why not mine? If there is anyone from iParenting reading, I would love a response as I haven't even gotten that so far.

As for the TTC front, I am on day 4, cycle 10. I have been taking the clomid for 2 days now and am very hopefull that this will be our lucky cycle.

That's all for this week!

Thanks for reading!

Janet and Josh
