Hi Everyone!
Once again it has been over 2 weeks since my last entry. My apologies, but life is hectic these days.
Potty training is going really well! Josh is having fewer accidents and is telling me more often that he has to go. I am still giving him rewards periodically when he uses the toilet. He gets one egg (plastic Easter egg with a few M&M's inside) when he pees in the toilet and 2 eggs if he poops in the toilet. He is having a more difficult time with the poop, but I understand that this is normal. Still, he was accident free yesterday and only had one accident the whole weekend! I am so proud of him and I love to see that he is also proud of himself.
The one thing that bothers me about this whole process is that Josh gets upset when he has an accident. It almost seems like he is embarrassed, but I am not sure that is the case. He is especially upset if he has pooped in his pants. Last week, when I went to pick him up from school, the teacher told me that he had actually pooped on the floor of the classroom. He didn't actually pull his pants down, but it appeared that he had gone in his pants and then shook his leg until it fell out of his shorts. I have seen him do this before, but I noticed it before the poop made it to the floor, so I was able to avoid a similar situation at home. Anyway, the teacher didn't notice this happening and a short while later they noticed his little surprise on the floor (LOL). When the teacher asked the children who had pooped they all said "not me" (including Josh). When the teacher was telling me about this I really had to hold back a laugh because it sounded so funny. She was being very serious and I know that it is not sanitary to have a child pooping on the floor, but it just struck me as funny. Josh denied it until the bitter end. They ultimately had to do an underpants check to see who the culprit was.
I don't know if I have mentioned this before, but Josh gets nose bleeds regularly. This isn't a real surprise because I also got them regularly as a child. My Dad got them so much even as an adult, that he had his nose cauterized to stop the continuance of the bleeding. Just to make matters worse, Josh suffers from allergies and takes Claritin and Singulair to keep those symptoms under control. These medications dry up Josh's nasal passages, which just makes this problem worse. We use a humidifier in his room when it gets really bad and I use a saline solution for his nose twice a day to try to keep it moisturized. I also occasionally use Vaseline in his nose to help control this problem. These things may reduce the occurrences, but he still gets nose bleeds a lot.
Yesterday, was the worst nose bleed yet and it was a nightmare. With the dry heat we have been having and the constant air conditioners running Josh has been really dry lately. Yesterday, when we got home after school/work Josh got upset because I wouldn't let him have a styrofoam container that held the leftovers from my lunch. He started to have a tantrum and that started the nose bleeding. This was compounded by the fact that he was crying hysterically. I was able to get him into the bathroom, but the bleeding was pretty heavy and it was upsetting him to see the blood. I couldn't wipe it away fast enough and I went through almost an entire box of tissues. From experience I know that cold water or an ice pack helps slow down the bleeding, but Josh was so upset he wouldn't let me do anything more than put a paper towel on his nose that was soaked in cold water. It took about 40 minutes for the bleeding to stop and he cried the whole time. I tried to comfort him the best I could, but that didn't seem to help much. What an experience! I think both of us were pretty wiped out after that! Nose bleeds usually happen in spurts, meaning that once you get one you're susceptible to getting another one that day or the following day. Sure enough, Josh woke up with a nose bleed this morning. This time he was much calmer about it and I was able to clean him up pretty easily. This one only lasted for a few minutes, which was quite a relief after last night.
While the spring season has brought more nose bleeds, it has also brought longer days and beautiful weather. I love this time of year now that I have Josh. I love having time with him when we get home during the week, to play outdoors. Josh loves water, so we often wash my car and spray each other with the hose. Last weekend, we even planted a vegetable garden from seed. I am really hoping those seeds turn into plants and we are able to actually eat some of the vegetables it produces. Josh also loves the beach! Last Saturday DH took him to the beach while I got my hair cut. When they got home, Josh told me how they had seems dolphins and whales! This is such a great time of year!
As for TTC, I am really optimistic about this cycle (have you heard me say that before!). I met with Dr. H on day 3 of my cycle. He wanted to let me know that he has counseling services available if I feel the need to talk to someone about this whole process. While I am sure his intentions were good, it made me feel like the whole situation is hopeless and I need to deal with my feelings about that. It was actually depressing to have this conversation with him, but at the same time he is telling me that he thinks my chances of getting PG are very good. I guess most women are very emotional when they see him, but for me by the time I see him I am over the disappointment of not being PG. He said that either I am really well adjusted or it is just a facade. I'd like to think I am just really well adjusted (LOL).
Anyway, we took out the clomid this cycle and I started the Repronex (injectables) on day 3. In the past I have only used them for 3 days, but this time I used them for 7 days. My butt is still bruised from all the shots I had to give myself! We also did 2 IUIs this cycle on day 10 and 11. Dr H said this is the most aggressive treatment he can offer short of IVF. Please let this be it for us!!!!
I have to wait until Friday, May 14th to test. Please send all the luck you can muster my way, I really want to be PG!
Thanks for reading,
Janet and Josh
