Janet's Diary Entries

April 3, 2003

Hi Everyone!

I am happy to report that this week has been relatively uneventful. No emergencies, no illnesses and basically no surprises!

Josh has responded well to the allergy medication. He is breathing more clearly, is coughing less and his eyes look really good. I went to fill the prescription for the Zyrtec (we have been using samples so far) and the Pharmacist said that my insurance doesn't cover it. I called the doctor and Josh will be taking CLaritin (over the counter) alllergy medication instead. I haven't started using it yet, but I hope it works as well as the Zyrtec has for him.

Josh is talking up a storm and has started saying full sentences. Yesterday, when he was eating breakfast I told him he was making a mess (he was eating oatmeal on his own and it was getting all over him as well as his tray). He kept saying "clean up" so I gave him a paper towel and he proceded to wipe down his tray. It was so cute, but this isn't the first time I have seen that my son is going to be a neat freak like his Mommy. Anyway, after he was done, he said "Mommy, I clean up the mess." I was amazed at how clear he said the words and how many words he had put together in one sentence! He tries very hard to communicate with me and I am sure he gets frusterated at times. Sometimes he will say a series of things then stop and look at me as if he is waiting for an answer and I have no clue what he just said. He is making major progress in his speech though and I am understanding what he says more and more every day.

I almost, don't want to write this for fear that I will jinx myself, but I have to add that Josh is no longer biting. It has been a couple of months now, since he last bit another person and I am thrilled. His teachers and his pediatrician told me it was a phase that some children go through and not to worry about it, but how can you not worry when your child is biting other children. I am just very happy, that this phase appears to be over!

Did I mention that my son is a neat freak! He always wants to clean everything. Even in the bath tub, he takes the wash cloth and cleans the sides of the tub. Last weekend, he was thrilled to help Daddy wash his car. We gave him his own bucket filled with soapy water and a wash cloth and he was scrubbing away. He is keeping me in line as well. The other day, he looked behind the refrigerator and saw dust bunnies and dirt and said "Yucky, Mommy clean up". So there I am with a wet paper towel trying to reach behind the refrigerator and clean up the dirt. I've got a little drill seargent on my hands!

Josh is going to be 2 in less than 2 months, so I have started the early planning stages of his party. We are going to have it at the park down the street from our house. I have reserved the area and I am going for a Sesame Street theme. I couldn't find any invitations that I liked, so right now I am working on making my own. I wanted to have a late afternoon party so that all the children would have napped before hand. I would also like to serve some food, but I am not sure what to serve or when to serve it. I am thinking the party will be from 2:00 - 5:00 PM. Any suggestions would be welcome!

My 2 nephews were in town last weekend and Josh had such a great time seeing them! They live in Hawaii, so he only sees them a couple of times a year, but loves them so much. It is great to see them getting along so well, I just wish that they lived closer to us so they could play together more often. They went back home on Wednesday, so I am not sure when Josh will see them next.

As for me, my birthday is Sunday! I will be 36 years old. It really snuck up on me this year. I kept thinking April was so far off, until it was April 1st! I don't really have anything planned, we will just play it by ear.

Well, that is it for this week.

Thanks for reading!

Janet and Josh
