Janet's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

February 27, 2004

Hi Everyone,

This week has been a bit unusual in the sleeping department. Although naps have always been a struggle, Josh usually sleeps well during the night and rarely gets up. If he does have a restless night of sleep it is usually because he is sick, so when it happens it always concerns me. Josh goes to sleep at about 8:30 every night and sleeps until 6:30-7:00 am.

On Tuesday night, we put Josh down to sleep at the regular time and he woke up the first time at 10:00 pm. He is able to open his door now, so he came out of his room and I met him in the hallway. I scooped him up, felt his forehead and he seemed fine. I asked him why he woke up and he didn't really respond. I think he was still a little out of it. Anyway, I put him back in bed told him it was night night time and back to sleep he went. He woke up again at 11:30, 12:15, 1:30 and 2:30. At 2:30 am, he was up for the morning. There was no getting him to go back to sleep. The bright side (but also very strange) is that he was happy. He wasn't fussy at all, just wanted to play. John and I tried everything to get him back to sleep and nothing worked. Finally at 4:00 am I resorted to a car drive. I try to avoid this method because I don't want to get into the habit of doing that, but I was desperate to get at least an hour of sleep before I had to get up and get ready for work. Josh was delighted to be going in the car and asked if we were going to school. I was so tired, I just said yes and strapped him into the car seat. I really had no intention of driving him to his school and thought for sure he would be asleep before we made it to the freeway. I was wrong. When I started to turn the wrong way at the end of the street, Josh informed me that I was going the wrong way, "school is that way Mommy!". He was definitely more awake than I was at this point. At his request, we were off to his school at 4:00 am. He lasted about 15 minutes of the drive and then fell asleep. I wanted to make sure he was in a deep sleep before we went home, so I drove around a little longer and arrived home at 4:30. Just as I was unstrapping his car seat, he woke up! I carried him in the house and he was wide awake and ready to play.

I had to hand him off to my husband at that point because I had no energy (neither did John at that point, but it was his turn!). John finally rocked him to sleep by 6:00 am. I was already up and showered by then and concerned that I was going to have to wake him in an hour to go to school (for the second time that morning). I expected him to be grouchy when I woke him up, but he wasn't at all. He had a great day at school and as you can imagine took a nice long nap (I was so envious).

John and I both made it through the day and hoped for a better night sleep Wednesday night. It was better, but still Josh got up a couple of times during the night and I ended up going in at 5:00 am and sleeping on the floor next to his bed, so that he wouldn't get up again. I know this is a bad thing to start, but that all sounds so rational when you are well rested. Last night (Thursday) he woke up at 2:30 am and I put him back to bed and sternly told him not to get up again until morning. 20 minutes later he was up. This time, I didn't even get out of bed, I just pointed to the door and told him to get back in bed. Instead he plopped right down on the carpet and went to sleep. In my mind, I thought "good enough" and went back to sleep. He slept on the floor for a couple of hours and at about 4:30 he climbed up from the bottom of our bed and snuggled in between John and I. That little stinker finagled his way into our bed while we were sleeping! Very cute, but I am at a loss. I don't want to get Josh started on bad sleeping habits at night. I just don't know what to do. If anyone has suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

As for me today is cycle 17, day 8. AF showed up moments after I wrote my last entry. I immediately contacted my RE and we have started the game plan for PG! I have my HSG test today and I am taking clomid. We decided to go forward with the IUI and I start injectibles on Sunday.

I have lots more to share, but no time. I will give a better update next week.

Thanks for reading!

Janet
