Heather's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

December 6, 2000

Well, I wish I had better news to report, but Claire is still sick. Poor little thing. She is coughing still and has a runny nose. We took her to the doctor on Saturday and got her some medicine, which she absolutely refused to take. Finally, we got a new prescription and she seems to not mind it so much. So, that is where we are right now with Claire health-wise. She's in a chipper sorta mood and has a great appetite, so that at least is a good sign. We'll just have to wait and see how this new medicine works. I hate seeing her sick.

Earl the Squirrel is back!!! He had gone AWOL recently and I wondered where he was. This week he's been on our porch every day eating the stale oat cereal I've been leaving. Today, another squirrel showed up too. (Who knows, that other squirrel could be the famous Earl, I certainly can't tell them apart!!!) There was a very noisy squirrel fight on the porch this afternoon which Claire thought was quite dramatic! She stood by the doors and watched, mouth open and finger pointing the whole time! It doesn't take much to amuse her! I noticed that both squirrels seem to be fattening up for the long, cold winter months here in Michigan, just like everyone else in this house seems to be doing. YIKES!

Claire has been too sick to go to Kindermusik and playgroup, I feel bad for her, but I don't want her to be running around with the other kids and make them sick as well. She's been entertaining herself with her dollies and stuffed animals. We have been baking cookies together, (I finally bought a rolling pin, you'll be happy to note, Erin!) and playing tea-party, well, the best we can with a 15 month old who likes to throw the tea cups. Tonight we are putting up our tree. It should be interesting to see what Claire thinks of it. I don't want to put all the ornaments out of her reach, but I also don't want to spend the next month yelling, "No Claire, don't touch that!!!" I guess I spend most of my days saying that anyhow, so what difference would it make??? We shall see.....

I'm almost done with my Christmas shopping for Claire. We try to keep it simple in our home. My in-laws tend to go WAY overboard, so we try to compensate here. They buy TONS of toys that Claire doesn't really need or even play with, so our rule is one toy, two articles of clothing, a book and a Christmas ornament. I'm sure that will change over the years, but as she is only 15 months old, I think that plan will work! We already bought her clothes and a stuffed bunny with her name stitched on its dress, now I just need to pick out a special book and an ornament. As for the rest of our families, we are about half way through our shopping. I still need an idea or two for Troy. The man is NOT easy to buy for. Oh well, what man is?

On that note, I will say goodbye until next week, when I hope Claire is feeling MUCH better! Have a great week!
