The Nightmare Before Thanksgiving

Well, what more can I say? It was awful, no, beyond awful. It was terrible, horrible and nasty, all rolled into one big nightmare. It started a little something like this....

The Friday before Thanksgiving, Troy had the day off, so we went shopping and came home to find we had no electricity, AND, no heat. So, after spending the day freezing, we called the electric company to find out that we were not going to have our electricity back on any time soon. (apparently, there was a problem with some underground line) We packed up our stuff (in the dark, with one flashlight and a candle) and drove four hours to my parents house in Pennsylvania. (instead of renting a hotel room for two days) We got in at about 1a.m. and promptly went to bed. WELL.... In the middle of the night, Claire woke up crying and vomiting. This continued all night and most of the next day. On Sunday, when we really needed to go back home, Troy came down with whatever it was that Claire had. We decided that Claire and I would stay at my parents, since we were just going back there on Wednesday anyways and Troy would drive back to Michigan alone. Sunday night, we found out that not only Claire and Troy were sick, but my in-laws and nephew as well.

Then Came Monday..

By Monday, my parents were sick, my brother-in-law was sick, and so was I. I have no idea what kind of nasty flu bug we had all contracted, but it was the pits! We were all laying around or running to the bathroom, there was no happy medium. All we could hope for was that we'd all be well in time for the holiday. Tuesday afternoon brought my brothers into town and Wednesday brought Troy and my sister and brother-in-law. Thank goodness by then Troy and Claire were feeling OK. By Thanksgiving day, almost all of us were feeling fine, except my youngest brother, who became ill and had to drive back to college that same afternoon.

Thanksgiving itself was relatively uneventful, but I've never seen my family (and Troy's) eat so little. Everyone just picked at their dinners. I was ready to go home right after dinner, but we had to hang around 'til Sunday because we were invited to a friends baby's Baptism. Troy was her godfather... kinda had to be there, you know?)

Home Sweet Home....

We FINALLY got on the road to come home and ran into MAJOR traffic on the Ohio turnpike, holding us up an extra hour. It was as if we were being punished for some awful thing we must have done in previous life or something. EESH! When we got home and unpacked, we about fell into our beds. Claire and I woke up Monday morning with TERRIBLE colds, runny noses, etc. It's Wednesday and we are still feeling rotten.

I can't remember having a more miserable holiday. I hope that in the future, we'll look back on this and laugh. (yeah, right) So, I apologize if I have no glowing report of a merry holiday feast and no lovely pictures of my darling little girl. I really don't think anyone would have enjoyed pictures of my scowling family and vomiting baby. I'm hoping next week to have something a little happier to write about and I actually do have a picture of Claire that we had taken last week (in the five minutes that we all felt OK) that I hope to scan for next week.

Until then, stay healthy! Drink juice and eat your Wheaties!
