Heather's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

October 25, 2000

Claire is 14 months old

Where has the time gone? When she was born, everyone said that time would fly right by and the next thing we'd know, she'd be off to the prom! Well, at this rate, the prom could be next week! Some days I look at her in total amazement. What happened to the tiny baby I held in my arms, nursing her and rocking her to sleep? She's a toddler now, that I know. But, who took away that tiny scrunched up face? That sweet smelling, baby powdered little bum? Who replaced her with a sweet, yet sometimes stinky smelling, loud, constantly on the move, oh-so-sassy toddler? I think I know the answer to that. The answer is not a who, but a what. The what being TIME. I'm sure my parents felt the same way some 29-odd years ago when they realized their tiny girl was not so tiny anymore.

Claire's new little friend

We visited some friends of ours who had a baby girl just a couple of weeks ago and it was utterly amazing to see Claire next to tiny little Molly! Claire was actually that small once! Somedays it seems like it was yesterday, and others, well, it seems like a lifetime ago. While we were visiting, dear little Molly was asleep in her bassinet, too high for Claire to peek into, so I thought. Then I see out of the corner of my eye, there was Claire, on tippy-toes nose over the edge, peering in at Molly, smiling away! I couldn't believe it! I didn't think she even realized there was anything in there! I was so happy that she didn't try to reach in and toss Molly out like she does with her baby dolls! YIKES! It DOES make me wonder what Claire would be like with a baby brother or sister. Now, before you get all excited thinking that I'M thinking about more babies, think again! It was JUST a thought! :0)

Look out Jim Henson, here comes Claire!!!!

Claire has a puppet that belonged to her Uncle Andy when he was a small child. My mom gave it to her to play with one day, and somehow it made its way to our house. So, here we are with a rather deranged looking duck puppet that my child is afraid of. What to do...? Yesterday, she brought it to me, and I thought "Hmmm... maybe she likes it after all!" So, I stuck my hand in and made it "talk" to her. Well, she nearly hyperventilated from fright! I felt so bad! I took her little hand in mine and put both of them in the puppet and showed her how to work it, making its creepy little duck beak move along with our voices. After awhile, she put it down and moved on to the next interesting toy. I had forgotten all about it until later that night. Troy and I were watching TV and realized Claire had disappeared. At that moment of realization, Claire re-appeared, deranged duck puppet on her hand! She came waltzing over to the couch where we sat and jabbered away at us, moving the duck's beak in time with her own little voice! Then she made us each bend down and KISS the duck!!! I actually kissed that thing and pretended I liked it! UGH! So now that seems to be her favorite game. Kiss the duck. If she is playing with it and you happen to ask her for a kiss, you get one from the puppet instead! Oh well! That's got to count for something, right?!

Until next week, when I PROMISE there will be pictures,

Heather and the amazing puppeteer, CLAIRE!
